where the moon completely blocks the Sun. A complete solar eclipse can only be seen in a small area where the moon covers the Sun entirely.

On April 8th, a complete solar eclipse will be observable from certain locations in North America. Even though individuals in Ireland and Scotland may catch a fast, imperfect glimpse of the event, the rest of Europe won't spot any of it.

The occurrence of solar eclipses can only be witnessed from tiny areas on the surface of the Earth since the moon is comparatively tinier than the sun. Hence, the shadow cast by the moon on the Earth during the eclipse is limited, making it necessary to be located in the appropriate spot to observe it.

Living in the UK means having to wait quite a while before experiencing a total solar eclipse. However, individuals dwelling in other parts of Europe or those who are open to the idea of traveling, have a number of upcoming opportunities.

Next UK Total Solar Eclipse - When?

If you happen to be residing in the United Kingdom and are keen on catching a total solar eclipse without leaving the country, I regret to inform you that it won't be possible in the near future. The next total eclipse that will occur over some part of the UK is slated for September 2090. However, even then, the path of totality will only skim through the south-westernmost point of the nation, spanning across Cornwall and Devon, akin to what occurred during the 1999 eclipse.

It seems that we'll be able to see the complete eclipse in a couple of specific locations in Scotland - first in the north-west in June of 2133, and then over central Scotland and the north-east of England in 2135. If you're not in those areas during those times, don't worry - there will be another total eclipse that can be viewed from a much larger chunk of the UK in 2151. This one will be visible from a good portion of Scotland, as well as Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the north-east of Wales, and even as far south as the Suffolk coast on the eastern side of England.

Next Total Solar Eclipse Visible In Europe?

If you are interested in witnessing an eclipse in Europe, you won't have to wait for a long time. The complete eclipse that will occur in August 2026 can be seen from certain areas of Greenland, Iceland's west side, and a strip of land across Spain that starts from the north-western region of the country and extends up to Mallorca, the island.

Next year, specifically in August 2027, people situated in the southernmost point of Spain and northern parts of Africa will be able to see a complete solar eclipse. The eclipse's trajectory will go through Egypt and extend to Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

Next U.S. Total Eclipse: When?

The next time a total solar eclipse can be seen from North America after April 8, 2024 will be in August 2044. However, the path of totality will only be seen in certain areas of Alaska and mostly across Canada.
