West Ham to hold talks with Ruben Amorim in London over potentially replacing David Moyes
Ruben Amorim is currently having discussions with West Ham United in London regarding the possibility of him becoming their next manager, should David Moyes decide to depart from the team.
Moyes' current contract will expire this summer. Although he mentioned back in February that a new contract was offered to him, a decision on whether to renew it or not will not be made until the current season comes to an end.
For now, West Ham must come up with backup plans and Amorim is a top consideration. They are in talks with him to discuss the matter.
On Monday, Amorim, who is 39 years old, went to London to have more discussions with the representatives of West Ham. The players for Sporting Lisbon are currently not practicing and taking a break until Thursday, as they were given Tuesday and Wednesday off from training.
East London's team has considered Julen Lopetegui as a potential choice, but currently, Amorim is the top pick.
The Sporting Lisbon head coach, who is 39 years old, might be interested in the potential opening. However, it is not clear if West Ham is one of the options he is considering.
Liverpool has been contemplating Amorim as a potential option for their next manager to replace Jurgen Klopp. However, it seems improbable that Amorim will be the top contender for the position.
Moyes led the team to a major victory last season, winning the Europa Conference League and securing the club's first European trophy since 1965. However, this year he has faced several setbacks, with 12 losses in the league so far. The most recent one was against Crystal Palace, and Moyes was so disappointed with the performance that he struggled to express it in words.
The football team West Ham, who are currently ranking at eighth position in the Premier League chart, will play their next match against Liverpool on Saturday.
Who's Ruben Amorim?
The assessment conducted by Mark Carey, who is a data analyst at The Athletic.
Sporting approached Amorim following his excellent, yet short, performance as a coach at Braga. During his tenure, he managed to secure victories in 10 out of 13 matches.
During his debut season, from 2021 to 2022, he led the team to their first league triumph in almost 20 years. He achieved this by employing a calculated and dominating approach to possession-based football. This year, Sporting seems likely to secure yet another championship win, as they presently hold a lead of seven points at the top of the Primeira Liga.
The 39-year-old has a remarkable record of enhancing the team's quality, despite limited resources. A number of skillful players have departed from Sporting since his tenure began, such as Nuno Mendes, Pedro Porro, Joao Palhinha, and Matheus Nunes. However, Amorim has stuck to his distinctive style of play, which has remained consistent. This commitment has been a significant factor in their prospects of winning the title this year.
Despite the unbalanced nature of the Primeira Liga, a team that can showcase some of the most impressive offensive and defensive statistics among Europe's top seven leagues implies that their coach is making a notable impact.
As a coach famous for recruiting and enhancing the abilities of young athletes, it's easy to see why he's in great demand.
It seemed like a significant point in time for West Ham and David Moyes - a decision must be made promptly to bring clarity.
