Famous fitness instructor Richard Simmons dies
Renowned fitness personality Richard Simmons has passed away at the age of 76.
Simmons was discovered unconscious at his residence in Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, California, according to two sources within the police department who spoke with NBC News, Sky News' American counterpart.
He was discovered on Saturday, one day after turning 76 years old.
The US news website TMZ said that the police were considering his death to be natural.
On Friday, Simmons posted a message on social media expressing gratitude to fans for their birthday greetings. He mentioned that he had never received so many messages for his birthday before and was currently responding to emails. He wished everyone a wonderful Friday and signed off with love, Richard.
Before disappearing from the public view, Simmons was a coach and inspiration for more than four decades.
At the beginning of the year, he shared on social media that he had received a diagnosis of skin cancer.
Famous for his distinct passion and sense of humor, Simmons was a trailblazer in the fitness industry.
He appeared in 65 workout videos that were bought by over 20 million people, as stated on his website.
He also hosted his own television program called The Richard Simmons Show, which aired for four years and won multiple Emmy Awards.
During his time in the industry, he consistently spoke out against trend diets and stressed the importance of balanced nutrition and workout routines.

Earlier this year, Simmons objected to a movie being made about his life with actor and comedian Pauly Shore playing the role of Simmons.
"I recently found out along with everyone else that the lovely Richard Simmons has passed away. I hope you are now resting in peace and shining bright up in heaven," Shore posted on Twitter.
"You were truly unique, Richard. Your life was extraordinary and your story was incredible. You were one of a kind. You will be deeply missed, my friend. May you rest in peace."
