Wales results: Plaid Cymru delight at 'terrific' target seat wins

Plaid Cymru

Adrian Browne, a political reporter for BBC Wales News, teamed up with Nick Horton from BBC News to write this blog section.

New member of parliament for Plaid Cymru on Ynys Môn, Llinos Medi, was seen at the election tally with her kids, Twm and Elliw.

Plaid Cymru's Rhun ap Iorwerth has praised the "amazing outcomes" in his initial election as the head of the party.

The party successfully captured their desired seats of Ynys Môn and Caerfyrddin from the Conservatives, ultimately securing a total of four seats.

Mr ap Iorwerth stated that there have been significant and exciting progress made, which makes him feel optimistic about the upcoming Senedd elections in 2026.

The leader of the Ynys Môn council, Llinos Medi, won the fiercely contested seat, currently held by Mr ap Iorwerth in the Senedd. Ann Davies emerged victorious in Caerfyrddin.

Ms Medi explained to BBC Wales that the residents of Ynys Môn supported her because they desired "a voice from within the community".

She mentioned that the Ynys Mon constituency is always surprising because you never know which direction it will take.

Plaid maintained control of Ceredigion Preseli with a significantly larger margin, with Ben Lake reelected to Parliament and Liz Saville Roberts also keeping her seat in Dwyfor Meirionnydd.

In a passionate address after winning the election, Ms Medi expressed, "A person told me 'Llinos, I'm happy that you are interested in becoming an MP'."

"I told them that I have no interest in being a Member of Parliament. All I want is to be the representative for Ynys Môn, a place that I deeply cherish."

She mentioned, "I want to tell all the young girls out there who doubt their abilities, anything is achievable if you put your mind to it."
