During the initial stages of the game, Ivan Schranz netted his third goal of Euro 2024 for Slovakia, scoring the first goal of the match. This goal also helped him to become tied for the highest goal scorer of the tournament with Jamal Musiala and Geroges Mikautadze.

In the beginning of the second half, Phil Foden scored a goal with an assist from left-back Kieran Trippier. Unfortunately, the goal was disallowed after VAR checks showed that Foden was offside when he received the pass from Trippier.

During the first part of the game, England didn't manage to get a single shot on goal. This hasn't happened in a knockout match at a big tournament since the 1986 World Cup quarterfinal against Argentina.
