England’s Phil Foden heads home due to family matter

England's challenges at Euro 2024 have gotten worse because Phil Foden had to return home to deal with a "urgent family situation". Foden has played in all three of England's games in Germany and it is uncertain if the 24-year-old Manchester City player will rejoin the team in time for the knockout match in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday. England is optimistic that he will make it back.

Gareth Southgate was feeling the heat to make adjustments to his offense after his strikers once again struggled to connect in the frustrating scoreless tie with Slovenia on Tuesday. The English team, who advanced as leaders from Group C, have only managed to score two goals in three matches.

Southgate has rotated his attacking midfielders, playing Foden on the left side, Bellingham in the playmaker role, and Saka on the right wing, while Kane leads the line up front. Some fans are suggesting that Gordon and Palmer should be given the chance to play, with the possibility of Foden shifting to a central position if he remains in the starting lineup.

Foden, whose significant other is expecting their third child, was awarded the title of Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year for the previous season. He scored 24 goals and helped with 10 assists as City won their fourth consecutive Premier League title.
