Japanese golfer Hideki Matsuyama got off to a strong start in the men's Olympic golf competition, shooting a flawless first round with no bogeys. However, American golfer and defending champion Xander Schauffele is right on his heels, showcasing his impressive skills in Paris.
The opening day of the tournament at Le Golf National, located to the southwest of Paris, attracted an enthusiastic audience who cheered loudly for the French duo Victor Perez and Matthieu Pavon.
American golfer Scottie Scheffler, ranked as the number one player in the world, was at four under par after playing alongside Rory McIlroy, who is ranked third in the world and finished at three under par.
In the second round in Paris, Team GB's Tommy Fleetwood was trailing by four shots at -4, tied with Spain's Jon Rahm. Ludvig Aberg was one shot behind them. Unfortunately, Fleetwood's British teammate Matt Fitzpatrick had a tough day, finishing the round at +2, a disappointing 10 shots behind the leader for the gold medal.
