In Paris, Nathan Hales from Team GB achieved a gold medal in the men's trap shooting event. He not only broke the Olympic record but came close to matching his own world record.
The person from Rocheter in Kent, who is 28 years old, successfully made 48 out of 50 shots in the competition. This was only one short of his own world record of 49 shots made. Ying Qi from China came in second place with 44 shots made, and Jean Pierre Brol Cardenas from Guatemala won the bronze medal with 35 shots made.
When Hales takes a shot, he almost always hits the target. Surprisingly, he only missed four shots throughout the entire contest, scoring 123 out of 125 in the qualifying round.
"I just try to maintain consistency and approach it with the same level of focus as I do during training sessions," mentioned Hales.
I persevere and stay concentrated on my own actions, not on the actions of other athletes.
Staying calm at the Olympic Games can be tough. This is Hales' first time competing at this level. However, he shared that his girlfriend, Charlotte Kerwood, who participated in the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Games, provided him with some helpful advice.
"She was constantly sharing her thoughts and emotions with me, providing insight on what to expect from the crowd and the overall experience. She guided me through it all, and it was really helpful," Hales expressed.
This is the third time that Britain has won a gold medal at the Games, following victories in Team Eventing (equestrian) and Tom Pidcock (mountain biking) claiming two titles on Monday. This brings the total number of medals won by Team GB to 11.
Team GB is hoping to win at least 50 medals in this competition, with a goal of reaching 70 medals, which would be the highest number of medals the country has ever achieved at an Olympic Games.
