McKayla Maroney responds to Simone Biles' brutal jibe at MyKayla Skinner following Team USA's gold...
McKayla Maroney, a well-known figure in USA gymnastics, has found herself caught in the middle of the intense conflict between Simone Biles and MyKayla Skinner following Team USA's gold medal win on Tuesday.
Biles, along with Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, and Jade Carey, showed their superiority in the artistic gymnastics team finals in Paris, claiming victory with a margin of almost five-and-a-half points ahead of Italy.
After the Paris Games, Biles took to Instagram to share a photo of the team along with a cutting caption that said, 'absence of skill, unmotivated, victors of the Olympics.' This was in retaliation to a remark Skinner had made online before the competition.
In a video that is no longer available on YouTube, Skinner strongly criticized the team of Biles, Chiles, Lee, Carey, and Hezly Rivera for their lack of proper work ethic.
However, Maroney, a former Team USA athlete and gold medalist in 2012, has now expressed support for Biles by sharing her own views on Instagram.
Ex-Team USA athlete McKayla Maroney has shared her opinion, and she fully supports Simone Biles.
Maroney commented on Biles' post on Instagram saying that it couldn't get any more iconic than that. She joked that Biles messed around and found out for real.
Maroney then playfully mentioned the coincidence of sharing a name with Skinner.
"I feel like I have to say sorry just to reclaim my given name," she penned.
Skinner, who came in second place on the vault at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, has faced criticism for her remarks about her ex-teammates.
"Other than Simone, I don't think the skill level and the variety of talent is quite the same as it used to be," the 27-year-old expressed in a YouTube video.
Skinner went on to say that the girls simply do not have the determination to succeed in their work. She pointed to the US Center for SafeSport as an example, a non-profit group dedicated to preventing sexual and emotional mistreatment of athletes in US Olympic sports.
"It's also difficult because of SafeSport. Coaches can't be tough on athletes and they have to watch what they say," Skinner explained.
In a way, it's beneficial. However, to excel in gymnastics, you have to possess a certain level of assertiveness and intensity.
Simone Biles wrote a message in her celebration post that subtly criticized a former member of Team USA.
Maroney playfully mentioned that she feels the need to say sorry simply for having the same first name as Skinner.
Following this, Biles responded to Skinner's comments by stating on a social media platform, Threads, that not everyone requires a microphone and a spotlight to make their voice heard.
Biles and several other gymnasts, like Chiles, Lee, and Carey, all unfollowed Skinner on social media following her remarks.
Skinner eventually expressed regret for his actions.
I want to say sorry to Team USA and to all the gymnasts for what I said in my recent videos about the gymnastics Olympic trials on YouTube. I didn't mean to upset or disrespect any of the athletes or diminish their efforts, Skinner's apology stated on July 6th.
She went on to say, "After thinking about it, I was contrasting the time when Marta Karolyi was in charge to the present time."
I am realizing that I have not completely addressed the emotional and verbal mistreatment I faced with Marta, which may have contributed to my hurtful remarks. I acknowledge my actions and offer a sincere apology.
Suni Lee, Simone Biles, and Hezly Rivera form a trio of champions, happily celebrating their gold medal win.

MyKayla Skinner, who was part of the 2020 Olympic team, spoke out against the 2024 team's dedication to their training.
Skinner concluded her apology by sending her best wishes to the gymnasts competing in Paris and expressing her support by saying, 'I'll be rooting for all of you!'
Biles and Skinner both competed for Team USA in various events, including the 2020 Olympics.
They won Olympic medals in Tokyo despite Biles stepping back from competitions due to experiencing the 'twisties' - a mental obstacle causing a gymnast to lose control of their body while attempting twisting maneuvers in the air.
Now she has had her comeback: securing a second team Olympic gold medal and her fifth Olympic gold medal overall.
Looking back on her success, Biles shared with DailyMail.com that the stress in Paris felt unique compared to previous situations, but her past experiences were able to provide her with the necessary guidance.
In 2016, it was clear that we were meant to win the gold medal. People were confident in our abilities, so we went out there and gave it our all, ultimately coming out victorious with the gold.
Skinner, who stepped in for Biles and won a silver medal on the vault at the 2020 Games in Tokyo, has recently expressed disapproval of the 2024 Olympic gymnastics team for lacking a strong work ethic.
Biles unfollowed Skinner on social media after their disagreement, even though Skinner had said sorry.
When we were younger, we didn't fully grasp the impact of our actions like we do now. As I've gotten older, gained more experience, and continued to have a great time doing what we love, it's clear that we're truly enjoying ourselves.
I believe it was unique and unexpected that we won our first gold medal. It was definitely a thrilling experience. The pressure to succeed was high, but we managed to perform as expected.
Even as we prepared for tonight's event, we approached it with determination and a unique energy. The experience was thrilling, we enjoyed ourselves, and we simply focused on performing our gymnastic routines.
Simone expressed her excitement and gratitude at being able to represent the US on a global platform. She described the feeling of achieving the gold medal as truly incredible.
I believe that each of us had a point to make during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and we were able to show our worth tonight.
This achievement is incredibly important to us. We had this objective from the beginning, even though we didn't tell everyone because it was something we wanted to achieve for ourselves. However, I believe that deep down, this was everyone's objective. We are extremely pleased to leave with the gold medal.
