In Mariah Carey's 2020 book, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the singer, who has won five Grammy Awards, talked about her difficult relationship with her mother, describing it as something that brought her a lot of suffering and uncertainty.
Carey mentioned that there was competition between the two of them and that feeling of envy is common when you are successful. However, it was especially hurtful for her when it came from her own mother at a young age.
However, she also expressed her profound love for her mother, stating in the dedication: "To Pat, my mother, who, despite everything, I truly believe did her utmost. I will always love you to the best of my ability."
