Kemi Badenoch Says Tory MPs Plotting Against Rishi Sunak Are 'Not My Friends'

Kemi Badenoch

Kemi Badenoch expressed her disapproval of Tory conspirators who want her to take over as prime minister instead of Rishi Sunak before the election, stating that they are not her pals. However, she has not dismissed the possibility of making a leadership attempt in the future.

On Sunday, the business secretary expressed that Conservative MPs should cease their playtime and show their backing for Sunak.

When questioned about her aspirations for leadership in the future, Badenoch replied that it's difficult to predict until you're actually in the position.

Due to the Conservatives' significant deficit in the polls, there have been rumors of new efforts to initiate another leadership election and dismiss Sunak from his position.

Badenoch is a popular figure amongst Conservative party members and participated in the election that resulted in Liz Truss becoming the Prime Minister. He has been suggested as a potential successor.

After Truss' brief time in No.10, she supported Sunak in the ensuing competition.

As per reports from the Sun on Sunday, a group of Conservative rebels are pushing for Badenoch to take over as the party leader and are considering her as the successor to the iconic Mrs. Thatcher.

However, when she spoke to Sky News early on Sunday, she declared her devotion to the leader of her country.

"I completely back the prime minister. It's time for them to stop playing games and stand with the leader," she expressed.

The individuals who persist in mentioning my name in conversations are not people I consider my buddies. They display no genuine concern for me, my loved ones, or the consequences this could bring. They are simply causing chaos.

Badenoch stated that it is not appropriate to treat prime ministers as if they can easily be replaced and discarded.

Folks such as myself who serve in the cabinet, Members of Parliament, and let's be honest, all politicians as well as the citizens of our country, desire to witness his survival and achievement. We wish for him to prosper and do his very best.

During an interview on the BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, Badenoch firmly refuted any claims of having conversations with rebel Members of Parliament. She stated that she had not engaged in such discussions.

When questioned if she had aspirations to become a leader at a later time, Badenoch responded by saying that during the year 2022 in July, she had indeed run for a leadership position but was ultimately defeated.

If you had requested my thoughts in January 2020, I would have dismissed it as a ludicrous idea and laughed it off. You can't accurately predict certain events until you are experiencing them firsthand.

Former cabinet member, Simon Clarke, recently suggested that the Conservative Party should remove Rishi Sunak from his position as leader to avoid complete devastation in elections.

When he spoke up, many other members of the Conservative Party strongly objected, including Priti Patel, who used harsh language to criticize his comments, calling them "simple and causing division for his own benefit."

As per The Times, there was a faction of approximately ten rebellious Conservative MPs who were collaborating in London's central area with the intention of establishing a fresh leader for their party.

The Conservatives don't have high hopes for the by-elections in Wellingborough and Kingswood, as well as the local elections in May throughout England and Wales, which are predicted to be a major defeat for them.
