Conservative Kemi Badenoch barely held on to the newly formed North West Essex constituency in the recent General Election, with her lead shrinking from 27,594 votes to only 2,610.

The woman who held the positions of Business and Trade Secretary and women and equalities minister in Rishi Sunak's Government received 19,360 votes in the election. This was lower than the 39,714 votes she received in 2019, when she was defending the Saffron Walden seat she initially won in 2017.

Next up was Issy Waite from the Labour party, a 21-year-old student activist from Suffolk. She received 16,750 votes, which was twice as many as her party received in the previous election in 2019.

Grant StClair-Armstrong, running as an Independent but still listed on the voting papers as Reform UK's candidate, came in third place with 7,668 votes. Smita Rajesh of the Liberal Democrats finished fourth with 6,055 votes, and Edward Gildea of the Green Party placed fifth with 2,846 votes. The remaining candidates were Independents Andrew Green (852 votes), Erik Bonino (699 votes), and Niko Omilana (156 votes).

The number of people who participated was 68.1%, lower than the previous turnout of 72.86%.

The outcome is very different compared to the 2019 election, where Mrs. Badenoch's percentage of votes went down from 68.1% to 63%. In the previous election, she made history as the first woman to represent the Saffron Walden constituency, which had been under Tory control since 1922.

A visibly anxious Mrs. Badenoch was brought into the counting area at Lord Butler Leisure Centre in Saffron Walden, just before the official announcement of the results by Peter Holt, the Uttlesford District Council chief executive, at 3.30am.

During her winning speech, Mrs. Badenoch expressed gratitude towards her family and followers, acknowledging that it was a challenging night for the Conservative party.

A lot of my friends and coworkers have been voted out of office. They have worked hard for their country, and their efforts will not be forgotten. The public has made it clear that they no longer trust the Conservative party.

It's evident that people no longer trust politics, which poses a significant threat. The Conservatives need to make a comeback without a doubt. The time to start working is now.

Afterwards, she quickly exited to her parked car while TV crews and journalists hurriedly tried to get a statement from the 44-year-old MP, who is expected to become the next leader of the Conservative party. However, she chose to remain silent and departed without revealing any information about her future plans.
