Gareth Southgate gives response to Jude Bellingham escaping ban for crotch grab

Gareth Southgate believes it is a reasonable decision to not penalize Jude Bellingham for his controversial celebration against Slovakia. The England manager praised the midfielder for handling his actions with maturity, despite the ups and downs he faces in his professional career.

The midfielder was punished by Uefa for not following the rules of good behavior. He was fined €30,000 and received a one-game suspension, but it will only take effect if he misbehaves again within the next year. As a result, he will still be able to play in England's Euro 2024 quarter-final match against Switzerland on Saturday.

Southgate, the manager of the English national team, thinks that the Real Madrid player would not be as good if he didn't play with passion. He also agrees with Uefa's decision to not give a harsher punishment.

He stated: "I believe it is a decision based on logic. Obviously, it is a moment that is rare and unique in a person's life to score a goal like that in the 96th minute. I can't imagine how I would have responded in that moment if I were in his shoes, especially at his young age."

"I am very impressed with all of his accomplishments and the attention on his life, especially at such a young age. Nobody is perfect, especially at 21, so it's normal to react emotionally sometimes. I believe his emotions are what make him the player he is, and he handles everything very well."

Bellingham is close to missing out on playing in a potential Euro 2024 semi-final due to accumulated bookings. Southgate mentioned that he plans to discuss this issue with his player, who is currently tied for the top scorer in the tournament.

However, he also said, "Jude is an amazing young man to collaborate with. His level of maturity, the way he handles any challenges that come his way, and his skill in influencing games during crucial times, are truly remarkable. His ability to navigate a world that is unique compared to the rest of the team is also very impressive."

I have a strong bond with him, just like I do with all of the guys. I am aware that he receives a lot of attention, but he knows that I am here to support and assist him, just like I would for any other player.

I am thrilled with his performance in the last game, especially after a couple of less impressive games that he considered a crisis. He is highly motivated to contribute to our victory.
