The TV program announced that at the age of 92, Gladiators referee John Anderson has passed away.
The sports coach from Scotland gained popularity for his performance as the referee on the original ITV program from 1992 to 2000, as well as the short-lived revamped Sky series in 2008.
He taught over 100 Olympians and was honored by being included in the Coaching Hall of Fame in 2002.
Gladiators' Instagram account posted a message expressing their sorrow over the loss of John Anderson, their beloved referee, who passed away at 92 years old.
We are deeply saddened for his loved ones. John will always be remembered as the unforgettable voice that said 'Are you ready, Gladiators? Are you ready, Contenders?'.
He would start with an introduction and then count down, saying: "Three, two, one."
The judge on the latest BBC program that started earlier this year, Mark Clattenburg, stated: "A truly memorable and unforgettable voice."
I had a challenging job trying to keep up with him in the latest season of Gladiators, and I will always remember watching him enforce the rules with the Gladiators! Rest in peace, you will always be remembered as a legend!
Anderson was in charge of coaching the Amateur Athletics Association of England and was also the coach for the Scottish national team.
He collaborated with race walker Lisa Kehler from Staffordshire, Olympic runner Liz McColgan from Scotland, and hurdler William Sharman.
Olympic sprinter Jennifer Stoute, also known as Rebel on Gladiators, expressed her admiration by saying: "He was truly exceptional. He had a gift for bringing joy to our lives and also stirring strong emotions. Fond memories."
