During the ESPY sporting awards ceremony, the famous tennis player talked about women's sports with her sister Venus Williams and comedian Quinta Brunson. She also criticized Butker, who was present at the event.

Speaking to the audience on Thursday evening, Venus expressed, "Feel free to appreciate women's athletics just like you would any other athletic competition, because they are all equally valid sports."

Serena then remarked, "With the exception of you, Harrison Butker," followed by saying "you're not necessary" before Brunson jokingly added, "Not needed. Like, never."

After sharing his views against abortion, describing Pride month as a "deadly sin", and criticizing lockdown measures implemented during the COVID pandemic, Butker addressed the graduates at Benedictine College in Kansas in May.

His comments about women in the workplace became very popular after he mentioned that they were being fed "unspeakable falsehoods" and implied that their main purpose in life would be as a "homemaker".
