England pick up opening win against Finland at Women's Euros — England Lacrosse
The England Women's team had a successful start to their European Championship journey by defeating Finland with a score of 26-1.
Four players on the team each scored three goals, while a total of thirteen players scored at least one goal during England's first game in the European championships as they tried to win the title for a second time.
Milly Home scored two goals in the first two minutes, one of them being a beautiful behind-the-back shot. England started the game strong and managed to score nine goals in the first quarter.
Home scored three goals in a row, while Lucy Devine, Anna Neville, and Sofia Wise all scored their first goals in a major senior tournament during a great first half.
Finland scored first in the second quarter, but that ended up being their only goal of the game. England took control and scored four goals in the second quarter and five in the third, taking a commanding 18-1 lead. Despite Finland's efforts to keep fighting, they were unable to close the gap.
During the third quarter, Jordan Carr scored a goal in her first game, making her one of seven different players to score before Georgie Southorn scored her second goal of the game.
In the last part of the game, Finland's defense started to get tired and England could easily pass to their teammates. Five out of the last eight goals were scored with the help of another player. Southorn, Claire Faram, and Sofia Wise each scored three goals to finish the game with a score of 26-1.
The next match for England will be against Belgium on Friday, July 12th at 4 o'clock in the afternoon.
