Si King expressed that the “Dave Day,” a 30-mile motorcycle journey honoring the life of his friend and fellow Hairy Biker Dave Myers, provided both him and their fans with a sense of "permission" to begin the process of mourning.

A brand new one-hour special titled The Hairy Bikers: You’ll Never Ride Alone captures a remarkable day when 46,000 motorcycle enthusiasts gathered together. The show also highlights the duo’s extensive journey as a team and their various adventures across the globe.

Myers passed away at the age of 66 in February after being diagnosed with cancer. Originally from Barrow-in-Furness, he first disclosed his illness during an episode of Agony Uncles, the podcast he co-hosted with King. Recently, King shared his favorite memory of their time together.

Before the documentary airs on December 23, King, 58, shared with PA that he chose to create this special program in honor of the 32nd anniversary of their friendship and 23 years of collaboration.

At 58 years old, King shared that he chose to create the documentary after recently marking 32 years of their friendship and over 23 years of collaborating professionally.

He mentioned, "After that date had come and gone, it felt important to take some action. We believed this was the most meaningful way to honor his memory."

I believe that what Dave Day accomplished was to allow a broader audience, particularly the Hairy Bikers community, to begin the healing journey for my close friend.

It served a dual purpose: it gave us the opportunity to mourn, which is something we all require, and that’s the reason we hold funeral services in our culture. At the same time, he truly cherished his life.

"While it's bittersweet, it’s really a tribute to a happy person and the memories he created for us all on television."

The chef and biker shared that putting together the footage for the show was a deeply nostalgic experience for them. They mentioned that it reminded them of the memorable trips they took together.

He mentioned, "We've traveled the equivalent of five-and-a-half times around the globe and even made a trip to the moon and back when you consider the distance. Most of that journey was spent riding on a motorcycle as two friends."

Naturally, it was filled with nostalgia, and one image would trigger another in your mind.

“Wow, do you recall that? It was this incredible combination of the experiences we shared, both in terms of physical adventures and emotional moments, as friends.”

The atmosphere was wonderful and truly unique; it was a remarkable experience. However, there were times when it was quite challenging as well.

"When I had to record the voiceover for the show, it was quite challenging for me."

King described his experience with his best friend following his illness as being “different from everyone else.” He mentioned that their dynamic was similar to what people see on television, sharing that Myers had wanted him to pursue his television career even after his passing.

He stated, "We acted out of curiosity, asking questions along the way. I'll keep doing the same in support of Dave."

“I’m certain he would want me to keep going, and I know this because we talked about it. It meant a lot to both of us.”

The TV host mentioned that he hoped the audience would understand the importance of "embracing the present and finding happiness," just like Myers did.

He stated, "Life can be tough in today's world, and it should be seen as something to celebrate. The last thing Dave would want is for anyone to feel sad or down."

He would often say to take life by the horns, give it a good shake, and see where it takes you.

The core message was all about recognizing that life can surprise you unexpectedly, so it's important to appreciate each moment. That’s the main lesson he would want others to remember.

The Hairy Bikers: You’ll Never Ride Alone is set to premiere on BBC Two on December 23 at 9 PM.
