In May 2022, on a podcast called Agony Uncles, which he hosts with his presenting partner King, the famous BBC chef made his cancer diagnosis known to the public.
During a recent announcement, he mentioned that he will be limiting his participation in filming and food festivals this summer. He confessed that he hasn't been feeling great lately and needs to undergo chemotherapy, something that many people are already aware of. As a result, he plans to have a more relaxed year.
The television show 'Hairy Bikers: Go West' features Si King and Dave Myers.
Myers disclosed afterwards that his beard and well-known handlebar mustache fell out as a consequence of experiencing chemotherapy's secondary effects.
During an episode of his podcast Agony Uncles, Myers expressed his longing for his beard. He described how he misses the sensation of having facial hair and how it feels different on his skin. He stated that he prefers a bald head paired with a beard, as he believes it gives off a biker vibe. Ultimately, Myers is eager to have his beard back.
In the Spring of 2023, Myers resumed filming for a brand new show called The Hairy Bikers Go West, which started airing last month. In this latest series, the duo embarks on a heartwarming journey down the scenic west coast of the United Kingdom, evoking memories and emotions.
Myers declined to disclose the specific type of cancer he was diagnosed with, fearing that people might jump to conclusions about his wellbeing.
In 2022, Myers shared with The Guardian that he made the choice to keep his cancer diagnosis private. He expressed that he did not want others to search the internet for information or offer unsolicited medical advice. Myers hoped to avoid any judgment that might stem from a public revelation of his condition.
Following the passing of Myers, Charlotte Moore, Chief Content Officer at the BBC, paid homage and expressed that he was well-liked by the public.
The BBC is feeling extremely sorrowful upon receiving this news. Dave transformed cooking into an exhilarating journey and he spread that delightfulness among millions of viewers, as stated by Moore.
"He had a remarkable bond with Si which was loved by everyone. They charmed the audience and made them feel like they were close friends. Not just that, he was a wonderful and delightful person. We extend our condolences to his loved ones and numerous acquaintances."
The announcement made by King about Myers' death stated that he passed away peacefully at his residence on the night of February 28, 2024. Lili, Dave's spouse, and his near and dear ones were present by his side during his last moments, including David and myself.
Everyone who was acquainted with Dave is deeply saddened by his demise. Dave found immense joy in his wife's company and treated her children, Iza and Sergiu, with great affection as if they were his own.
Every day I will feel his absence, and the connection and camaraderie we built over many years. I hope God guides him swiftly, my dear friend, as he will always be a shining light in this world. Until we meet again, take care. I hold you in my heart.
