Hairy Bikers' Dave Myers shares health update amid cancer treatment
In May of 2022, Dave Myers shared the news of his cancer diagnosis.
Dave Myers, the chef from Hairy Bikers, has revealed that he was diagnosed with anorexia by doctors because he was finding it difficult to put on weight due to his ongoing cancer treatment.
Myers, hailing from Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire, hasn't revealed the specific type of cancer that he's dealing with after the update that he started receiving treatment in May 2022.
The host who is 66 years old stopped working for a short time and then started shooting for their latest show named The Hairy Bikers Go West. In the show, they go on a journey towards the west of Britain starting from Scotland and ending in Devon.
During their brand new BBC2 show, Myers spoke with his co-star from Hairy Bikers, Simon King. He revealed that his weight has finally evened out since the diagnosis. Myers couldn't believe it when he was diagnosed with anorexia, considering all the hard work he had put into dieting.
"Yep, I'm doing fine these days, I've learned to accept it. My weight has remained steady, so I'll keep doing what I'm doing."
The celebrity who stars in the TV show also divulged that his treatment for chemotherapy had the result of causing him to experience balance problems. He had reservations that he wouldn't be able to ride a motorcycle for the show in the future.
Si King and Myers are teaming up for a brand new series on the BBC called The Hairy Bikers Go West.
"I never imagined I'd be back on a motorcycle again after being diagnosed with an illness," he shared emotionally with his friend on Tuesday's episode, but here we are triumphing over it together!"
Once, I was unable to maintain my balance and walk properly. I never thought I would be able to ride a bike. However, now I am completely stable and secure, my friend.
The king inquired, "How did you retrieve that? Did you have to go through a lot of difficulties?"
When asked how he overcame his injury, Myers responded by saying: "Through dedication and physical therapy."
"I'm still using a splint on my foot to switch gears, but it's functional. It's a delightful experience. I adore everything about riding a bike, from the scent it emanates to all the necessary equipment. It's like my longstanding wish has been fulfilled, Kingy. I value it immensely."
The King expressed admiration for Myers' decision to participate in the newest installment of the series after receiving medical attention for cancer.
The individual who is aged 57 expressed, "This is a series that will stay in our memory forever; however, it doesn't imply that we won't remember other series as well."
We feel very fortunate to be able to pursue our chosen occupation, and I believe this particular experience was especially significant due to Dave's health and his unwavering devotion and passion for his work.
It took an incredible amount of bravery and vitality for him to continue doing it, particularly while receiving medical care. This only strengthens the reason as to why Dave and I will always remember it.
King and Myers travel over 600 miles in their seven-part series and make visits to Merseyside, North Wales, and Bristol.
Their trips to Scotland and Persia sparked their creativity in the kitchen. They decided to prepare Chicken Balmoral along with a side of truffle mash and a poached lobster paired with Scottish Bucatini pasta. They also tried their hands at making Lamb chop pakoras, which they served with traditional Persian rice. On top of that, they made a Lancashire Butter and Potato Pie that was simply divine.
Tune in to watch The Hairy Bikers Go West on BBC 2 on Tuesdays at 7pm.
