An hour that has gone by
A 16-year-old football player named Chido Obi-Martin has saddened Arsenal fans worldwide by announcing his departure from the London-based club.
Obi-Martin, whose father is from Nigeria but mother is from Denmark, posted a farewell message to Arsenal fans on his Instagram to thank them.
"The experience and personal development I have gained here is truly priceless. I will always cherish the memories we have created," wrote Obi-Martin.
There are rumors going around that the young player who impressed everyone last season after scoring 10 goals in one match against Liverpool U16, will be moving on to Manchester United to further his career.
Manchester United has not issued any official statement regarding this transfer.
Overall, Obi-Martin scored a total of 29 goals in 17 games for Arsenal's Under-18 team last season.
Why Are Arsenal Fans Unhappy With The Obi-Martin Transfer?
The news of Chido-Obi Martin's transfer did not sit well with many Arsenal fans, and some of them believe it was mainly for financial reasons.
One Arsenal supporter posted on X saying they are pleased that the club did not accept the money that Manchester United offered for the young player.
"I'm only 16 years old and having to pay 30k just like United is absolutely insane. We have a wage structure and 15k is pretty reasonable. I wish them all the best though," the X user with the username UncleYakub said.
However, Sean Soobiya, an Arsenal supporter who expressed his thoughts on Instagram, said: "It would be great for him, but don't come back to Arsenal if you don't think Manchester United is everything you hoped it would be."
The most recent striker that Manchester United purchased from Arsenal was Alexis Sanchez in 2018, but as his career progressed, the Chilean striker expressed his regret about the transfer.
After my first training session, I went home and told my family and my agent, "Should I tear up this contract and go back to Arsenal?" Sanchez said on his Instagram page in 2020.
Nonetheless, Robin Van Persie is another forward who transferred to Manchester United from Arsenal for the 2012/2013 season and he played a key role in helping them secure the Premier League title that year.
