Actress Shannen Doherty, known for her roles in Charmed and Beverly Hills, 90210, has passed away at the age of 53. This sad news was confirmed by her publicist, Leslie Sloane, who shared a statement with Variety. "After a long battle with cancer, Shannen passed away on Saturday, July 13," Sloane wrote. "She was surrounded by her family and her beloved dog, Bowie. The family has requested privacy as they mourn this loss."
Doherty was a huge star in the 80s and 90s, known for her role as Brenda in 90210 and in movies like Heathers and Mallrats. Her portrayal of Brenda attracted a lot of media attention, and today there are documentaries examining the negative fan culture that surrounded her. Despite leaving 90210 under difficult circumstances, her talent was undeniable, with Aaron Spelling building Charmed around her.
Doherty was open about her breast cancer diagnosis in 2015 and continued to share updates even when it spread to her brain in 2023. She was involved in a legal battle with her former management, claiming their mistakes led to a delay in her diagnosis and treatment due to a lapse in her insurance. Despite her health struggles, she started a podcast called Let’s Be Clear where she caught up with old friends and colleagues. Even when her cancer became terminal, she remained optimistic and determined to keep living, loving, creating, and making positive change.
