Beyond Paradise filming location: Where the Devon-set Death in ...
Fans of the long-running BBC crime drama Death in Paradise are in for a treat with the arrival of the spin-off Beyond Paradise.
But unlike the original series, which was filmed on the French Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe, Beyond Paradise is rooted in the west country.
Viewers will see DI Humphrey Goodman embarking on a whole new set of policing adventures alongside his fiancée, Martha, as they begin a new life together in a very different environment.
The series is set in the fictional town of Shipton Abbott, which is Martha’s hometown near the picturesque Devon coast – however, that’s not the county where most of the scenes were filmed…
Where is Beyond Paradise filmed?Executive Producer Tim Key said: “Being a Death in Paradise show we knew it had to be set somewhere beautiful and, in the UK, we are spoilt for choice.
“There were lots of conversations about where we take it but we settled quite quickly on the West Country as we felt that Devon hadn’t had a huge amount of exposure in TV drama, Cornwall often nabs the glory.”
While some of the series is indeed shot in Devon, when looking for filming locations, Key explained that the team settled on Looe in Cornwall after travelling around the West Country looking for a town that felt like an authentic community, and less like a resort.

“The fictional town is set slightly back from the coast, so we have all sorts of story worlds to dive into, including the folklore of the town, which is touched upon in episode one. The series looks beautiful, and we were lucky with the weather as well!”
Dylan Llewellyn, who stars in the series, said: “Shooting around the West Country was amazing.
“Shooting towards the end of summer meant we were able to enjoy some great weather, too. At times it was difficult to shoot inside the set of the police station as it got really hot!”
