The Bitter Regret FC Bayern Munich Could Face In May
In Munich, Germany on the 27th of April, there was a match between FC Bayern München and Eintracht Frankfurt at the Allianz Arena. The head coach of the Bayern Munich team is Thomas Tuchel and he was seen celebrating the team's win during the game. The photo of him in celebration was captured by Alexander Hassenstein and it shows the exciting moment of the match.
Occasionally, it is more advantageous to remain in the same position rather than taking a risk and making a change. However, Bayern Munich may not concur with this belief.
The Allianz Arena's boardroom is where the top brass plan their strategies, and their behaviour makes it apparent that they don't value patience very highly. They seem to view it as a meek and ineffective notion.
In the end, this is the team that terminated the contracts of three out of its last five coaches who had won the league title in the middle of the season.
The way Julian Nagelsmann was fired last year was incredibly harsh. Despite the fact that the team was still in the running for the Champions League and only one point behind Borussia Dortmund, the management showed no mercy. It was clear that they didn't give him the chance to even attempt to succeed.
Thomas Tuchel's departure from the postseason was expected and had a firmer reasoning this time. The team's poor performance in the Bundesliga was evident through some humiliating losses, including one to the eventual champions, Bayern Leverkusen.
As time passed, some may question if the championship team's extraordinary performance was considered. Less proficient coaches such as Nico Kovac may have achieved victory in the league for Munich, yet no coach of Bayern has encountered an adversary as formidable as Jurgen Klopp's time at Borussia Dortmund.
Moreover, Tuchel was still contending in the recently won Champions League final.
The choice seemed even more regrettable when FC Bayern began searching for new managers in the market. According to reports, the list of potential candidates includes Unai Emery of Aston Villa and Ralf Rangnick, who is frequently criticized.
The names of the new FC Bayern coach have not excited the fans much. Some of them expressed their dissatisfaction with the news that Tuchel will be departing at the end of the season by creating a petition asking for the decision to be changed.
The petition with 12,000 signatures expressed disappointment in FC Bayern's decision to fire Thomas Tuchel in the summer following their defeat against VFL Bochum. The petitioners deemed the decision to be terrible.
Thomas Tuchel, also called by the nickname "Juppel," faced numerous challenges during his time in Munich. He had to navigate through persistent negative media attention and cope with a team plagued by injuries. However, despite these obstacles, the accomplished coach managed to guide his players to the semi-finals of the coveted Champions League tournament.
I have a lot of respect for coaches like (Unai) Emery or Rangnick, but they don't compare to "Juppel".
When fans petitioned Tuchel, requesting a response, he maintained his usual stance on issues that arise at FC Bayern. He disregarded the matter by stating that it is a distraction that he does not find significant.
Tuchel stated that though the idea of staying might be appealing to his supporters, it is not his utmost concern. This was mentioned before the Bayern game versus Frankfurt.
Being a priority is not acceptable. For the following 11 days, football is the sole focus and everything else is disregarded. Regardless of whether it brings joy or discomfort, external factors will not influence my mindset.
"Tuchel's Not Fit To Teach"
On April 27, 2024, Thomas Tuchel, the Head Coach of Bayern Munich, spoke to the press after the Bundesliga match between FC Bayern München and Eintracht Frankfurt at Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany. The coach addressed the media about the game in a post-match press conference. A photo of Tuchel taken by F. Noever/FC Bayern provided by Getty Images was taken during the conference.
Former President Uli Hoeneß didn't hesitate to stand by his decision of getting rid of Tuchel. He stated in an interview with the national newspaper Bild that the coach's approach was too focused on completely changing the squad rather than enhancing the existing talent.
"We desire a trainer that enhances the skills of each player," he recommended.
In my own experience, I don't have any issues with Thomas Tuchel. On several occasions, he joined us for dinner and they were enjoyable evenings with no problems.
"However, he possesses a unique approach! It's not a matter of enhancing [Aleksandar] Pavlovic's skills, but enhancing [Alphonso] Davies' abilities."
If we want to succeed, simply buying players cannot be the only answer. Personally, I believe that while we should acquire one or two talented individuals, we must also focus on building up the confidence of our current players and putting in the necessary hard work to develop their skills.
I recall a time when our soccer team had a coach named Giovanni Trapattoni. On a daily basis, he instructed Sammy Kuffour, a player of African descent, on basic soccer skills such as passing the ball with both feet, chest trapping, and dribbling.
I once inquired of him: "Giovanni, what's your reason for doing that?" He replied: "As a football coach, it's crucial to enhance the players' skills and connect with them on a personal level by giving them the occasional embrace."
Honestly, the fact is that when it comes to the level that Bayern Munich works at, there are very few coaches who are superior to Thomas Tuchel.
It is possible that he could have helped some players get better, but it is also accurate to say that the Bayern team is lacking in important areas, particularly in central midfield, which has been a major problem for them throughout this season.
If Tuchel ends up taking another high-profile job, as many believe he will, the leaders of Bayern might feel unhappy and have regrets during the summer. This would be especially true if Tuchel manages to bring the Champions League title back to Munich.
