FC Augsburg takes moral victory in loss to Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich defeated FC Augsburg 3-0 on Friday in a game where Augsburg nearly managed to contain the home team's powerful offense.

In the end, FC Augsburg gave in, but it demonstrated to the team that they could hold their own against the top teams in the Bundesliga.

"I believe we performed strongly for much of the match and kept our defense solid. We had hoped for a few more chances in attack, but sadly, those were limited. At the beginning of the second half, it felt like we were facing even greater pressure. In my view, the two penalties we conceded were somewhat unfortunate. I truly sympathize with the team—they really gave their all for 60 to 70 minutes," commented FC Augsburg manager Jess Thorup (via FCBayern.com).

Marius Wolf, who plays as a full-back, agreed with his coach.

"We understood that we needed to withstand a lot, and we certainly did. Admittedly, our offense wasn't at its peak; we had limited chances. However, I believe we put Bayern to the test, which makes it frustrating that the outcome was determined by two penalties at the end. It's disappointing and irritating, but we need to keep pushing forward," Wolf expressed.

Midfielder Elvis Rexhbecaj expressed that his team put forth their utmost effort and felt drained after the match.

"The good news is that we didn’t give away many goals to Bayern, and when we did, they weren’t the clear chances that they typically get. However, we do need to reflect on our ball control. To succeed against Bayern, you need to make something happen when you’ve got the ball. Today, that proved to be very challenging because Bayern’s counter-pressing was exceptional – it really takes a toll. Still, we’re not going to walk away from this match feeling discouraged since we managed to stay competitive for such a long time," Rexhbecaj stated.
