Foreign Secretary's statement on the situation in Bangladesh

Bangladesh

David Lammy, who is in charge of diplomatic matters for the government, gave his thoughts on what is happening in Bangladesh.

The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, David Lammy, stated:

In the past two weeks, there has been a lot of violence and sad deaths in Bangladesh. The Chief of the Army Staff has declared a transitional period.

All parties must collaborate to stop the violence, bring back peace, reduce tension, and avoid any more deaths.

The citizens of Bangladesh should receive a thorough and unbiased investigation led by the United Nations regarding the recent events.

The UK is advocating for measures to secure a peaceful and democratic future for Bangladesh. There are strong connections between the people of the UK and Bangladesh, as well as a shared set of Commonwealth values.
