Ramsdale relief after blunder as Arsenal go top

Arsenal

Aaron Ramsdale has taken part in only six matches of the Premier League while playing for Arsenal during this season.

At last, a grin of relief appeared on Aaron Ramsdale's face.

For a majority of the past hour, Ramsdale did not find anything amusing.

At that time, it seemed like his mistake might have a negative impact. He hesitated on a backpass, causing Brentford to score and tie the game when his attempt at clearance was blocked by Yoane Wissa.

The young man who is 25 years old seemed very upset when he went into halftime, and the huge difference in his feelings at the end of both halves showed that it was a very chaotic night for the goalkeeper of England.

After he was given a chance for a Premier League start, he felt elated, but then he made a mistake just before the end of the first half which led to a feeling of disappointment.

However, he bounced back after the intermission and demonstrated his value to the team. He made two impressive saves from Ivan Toney and Nathan Collins, rescuing Arsenal from a potential 2-1 deficit.

The pauses made an important difference since the team playing at home achieved victory at the very end thanks to Kai Havertz. This must have caused Ramsdale to feel extremely relieved while he was at Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta, the head coach of the Gunners expressed his joy and satisfaction by mentioning that he is extremely pleased with the performance of his team member. Arteta added that the team member displayed exceptional traits of being confident, daring, and self-assured, which are his defining characteristics.

Mistakes are a common occurrence in football. What truly matters is how one responds to them, specifically in the case of goalkeepers, who undoubtedly face the toughest trials.

He accomplished it remarkably well.

I'm not caught off guard as the entire crew and audience supported him.

"He deserves to be respected and admired. We were determined to achieve a victory for his sake."

Ramsdale's Resilience Inspired Dressing Room

If Havertz didn't save Arsenal, Ramsdale's error could have prevented them from achieving a significant victory before their title competitors Liverpool and Manchester City face off at Anfield on Sunday at 3:45 PM GMT.

Maybe it would have had worse consequences in the future.

The competition among Arsenal, Liverpool, and City is incredibly close, to the point where any time one of them fails to win a match, particularly when playing at home against a weak team, it could determine who wins the Premier League championship.

Following his winning goal, Havertz expressed that the team came together to support Ramsdale during halftime in the locker room. They were able to recover swiftly by putting the incident behind them, which enabled them to make a comeback.

The Germany striker declared that every member of their group had committed mistakes throughout the season. Being a goalkeeper can sometimes make the errors seem more significant. However, they are united and taking responsibility as a team.

During halftime, we discussed the issue in the dressing room and managed to reverse the situation.

We encountered a challenging situation, but I believe we navigated it proficiently. Despite conceding a goal that was out of our control, we maintained our confidence and ultimately achieved success.

Did Ramsdale's Error Support Arteta's Call?

Arteta shocked a lot of people with his decision to acquire another goalkeeper for Arsenal last summer.

Throughout Arsenal's competitive run last season, Ramsdale was consistently the leading goalkeeper, having played in every game. He successfully managed to maintain 14 clean sheets while only allowing 44 goals to be conceded in 38 matches - which was the second-lowest amount in the top league.

Arteta was of the opinion that his team would benefit from the inclusion of David Raya, the goalkeeper from Spain who joined them on a loan for the entirety of the season from Brentford.

Ramsdale kicked off the league season, but was quickly swapped out for Raya, likely due to his weaker distribution abilities.

Ramsdale made his return to the Premier League in Saturday's game against Brentford, after missing out on the reverse fixture in November. Unfortunately, he made a mistake that reaffirmed Arteta's decision to make Raya the top choice goalkeeper.

Ex-Arsenal and England winger Karen Carney, who is now an analyst for Sky Sports, thinks that Wissa gained the confidence to move towards Ramsdale faster due to the absence of his old teammate Raya.

Carney stated that Wissa practiced with Raya consistently last year, and she was uncertain if he would have competed with Ramsdale as strongly if he had not done so.

We have observed statistics that indicate Ramsdale is exceptional at blocking shots as a goalkeeper, however, the primary factor preventing him from being in the Arsenal squad is his ability to play the ball from the back.

It is evident that Arteta recognized that Ramsdale has some shortcomings in a crucial aspect that is essential to the team's style of play. This is why Raya will be reinstated as the primary goalkeeper when Arsenal faces Manchester City in their upcoming Premier League match.

Although Ramsdale may have made a mistake, the Gunners are still in the running to win the most prestigious title in the Premier League - that of being crowned champions.
