Match Report: Rangers 5-0 Hearts

Rangers

On Saturday afternoon, Hearts experienced a devastating 5-0 loss at Ibrox.

Steven Naismith switched up his team's lineup for the journey to Govan. Dexter Lembikisa was swapped out for Nathaniel Atkinson at right wing-back, while Scott Fraser was replaced by Jorge Grant in midfield. Additionally, Kenneth Vargas was paired up with Lawrence Shankland up front, causing Alan Forrest to move to the bench.

After Rangers defeated St Johnstone last weekend and became the leaders of the cinch Premiership, the atmosphere at Ibrox was electric before the game started.

The instruction given prior to the game was likely to be to maintain a solid defense in the beginning. However, the men on the maroon team had an unfortunate start when they fell behind within the first two minutes of the match.

Out of nowhere, a surprise goal occurred during the game. The ball was swiftly passed to Mohamed Diomande, who was positioned at the edge of the Hearts box. Diomande handled the ball with his left foot, and blasted it with extreme precision into the bottom corner of the goal, leaving Zander Clark with no chance to defend.

At this moment, the Jambos were under a lot of pressure and Clark was doing his best to keep Hearts in the game by making two more saves before 15 minutes had passed.

To begin with, the goalkeeper denied Cyriel Dessers during a Rangers opportunity and then deflected a powerful shot from the Gers' captain James Tavernier.

On the 17th minute, Clark had to act once more in the game. He stopped Dujon Sterling from scoring with a long-distance shot, and then, he managed to make three incredible saves to prevent Dessers from scoring. Unfortunately, the play was offside, as indicated by the linesman's flag.

Around the 30-minute point, the Jambos began to have more control of the ball, although they didn't produce many chances. However, on 36 minutes, they were down by two goals.

In their own half, Hearts were unable to keep possession of the ball. Tom Lawrence passed the ball towards the left side, and Oscar Cortes kicked the ball towards the bottom corner with low force.

Dessers scored a third goal just one minute before halftime. He moved away from the middle of the field and headed towards the back post to redirect a pass from the left side into the net.

The first half of the Rangers vs. Hearts game has ended, and the score is currently 3-0 in favor of Rangers.

During the match, the Jambos decided to change their strategy by switching to a formation with four defenders in the second half. This was done in hopes of finding a way to score and catch up to the opposition. Additionally, Alan Forrest came in as a substitute for Kye Rowles.

Dessers scored his second goal in the afternoon when a ball was crossed from the right and there was some chaos in the Hearts box. The ball fell to the player wearing the number nine, who hit the ball hard and scored from a short distance.

After 66 minutes, Fabio Silva, who came on as a substitute for Rangers, scored the team's fifth goal. He received a ball on the left-hand side of the penalty box, and then skillfully shot it across the goal and into the far corner, making sure the goalkeeper couldn't stop it.

Shankland had a chance to score a goal after Atkinson passed the ball to him, but unfortunately he headed the ball against the post. This made the men in maroon have a terrible day. They need to bounce back and perform better in the upcoming Edinburgh derby match on Wednesday.

The Rangers team consisted of players such as Butland, Tavernier (who was also the captain), Yilmaz, Lundstram, Souttar, Goldson, Dessers, Lawrence (who was later substituted for Silva at the 55th minute), Cortes (who was later replaced by Wright at the 69th minute), Sterling (who was later replaced by McCausland at the 55th minute) and Diomande (who was later substituted for Raskin at the 69th minute).
