Zoe Ball will be away from the radio for yet another week, and listeners are still expressing their worries. In the meantime, Scott Mills has been stepping in to take her place.
There has been a lot of discussion about what lies ahead for the radio host after she took a long break due to her mother's passing.
Ball's mom, Julie Peckham, was diagnosed with late-stage pancreatic cancer earlier this year. In March, the BBC Radio 2 presenter announced that she would be stepping away from her morning show to look after her.
However, a month later, she announced that Peckham had passed away at the age of 74.
On April 24, Gaby Roslin, who had been filling in for Ball alongside Scott Mills during her time away, shared the update live on the air.
Ball, 53, made her most recent appearance on her show on August 8, when she cautiously came back for a short time. She had returned just four days before that, but then Mills stepped in once more.
"What’s going on with Zoe Ball? She hasn’t been on the radio for five weeks now, and there hasn’t been any news about her recently. I really hope she’s doing alright," posted a worried fan on X/Twitter.
Mills, who took over as host, reassured anxious listeners on August 12th: “If you usually wake up to your alarm at 6:30 am when Zoe is on the air, don’t panic.”
He went on to say, “You didn't sleep in. If you’ve just tuned in this morning, it's Scott Mills filling in for Zoe for the next few weeks. Sending all my love to you, Zoe, as well as the rest of the team.”
Earlier this month, the BBC announced her upcoming role as a presenter for Radio 2. A representative stated to The Independent, “Zoe will be back hosting the Radio 2 Breakfast Show later this month.”

According to the BBC Radio 2 timetable, it appears she might return to broadcasting on Monday, September 23.
Fans were thrilled to hear the announcement and expressed their excitement, saying things like, "I'm so glad she's taking some much-deserved time off. She's truly missed, and when she returns, she'll be embraced by her friends, coworkers, and many fans, including myself. I absolutely love her!"
In a heartfelt message on her social media, Ball honored her mother by saying in April, “Rest peacefully, dear Mama. I’m grateful for the lessons you gave us on unconditional love, bravery, and empathy. You showed us that even during the toughest times, laughter is the most precious gift. We feel lost without you, but we will cling to one another tightly.”
