Zoe Ball's last episode on BBC Radio 2 was a mix of joy and emotion, filled with heartfelt messages of encouragement, highlighted by an unexpected shout-out from her son.

Expressing her desire to have brought a sense of warmth and positivity to her audience during difficult times, the radio host expressed her gratitude to her listeners. She shared, “It’s truly been an honor to be with you during your morning routines. It feels like I'm simply having a conversation with a friend. There’s something really special about that close connection.”

"I always appreciate that we've shared both the good and bad moments in life," said Ball, who has decided to leave the program after six years in charge to concentrate on family matters.

"I sincerely hope we've been able to provide some brightness and a welcome escape during tough times. I’ve been deeply touched by the messages, texts, emails, cards, and letters I’ve received from you all over the years."

Woody, Ball's 24-year-old son from her previous marriage to Norman Cook, also known as Fatboy Slim, reached out with a heartfelt note. He said: "Hi Mum, you've really excelled with the breakfast show, and I wanted to express my gratitude for adding a touch of magic to everyone’s mornings. Cheers to getting better sleep! Love, Woody."

Trying to hold back her emotions as she introduced the next track, Ball said: "Wow, this one goes out to everyone who's supported me, everyone here today, and, of course, my kids. Here’s 'Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)' by Frank Wilson."

She expressed her desire to share love, particularly with her family and her children, Woody and Nell, who inspire her with amazement each day. Being their mother is the most wonderful experience of her life.

Ball, who made history as the first woman to host the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, concluded her segment with an inspiring message for women. She encouraged them by saying, "Keep in mind, ladies, you can achieve anything."

Ball mentioned that feelings were intense behind the scenes as well: “There have already been some tears. We’re not really sure how to handle this morning, are we? I walked in and suddenly forgot how to press the button,” she expressed.

She also honored the Radio 2 personality Steve Wright, who passed away in February, stating: “We miss you, dear friend, but your spirit will forever be with us. Thank you for being an incredible broadcaster and a friend to all our listeners.”

In January 2019, Ball started hosting The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, succeeding Chris Evans. She will be back to host two special episodes of Zoe Ball’s Christmas Crooners on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Starting in January, Scott Mills will be the new host of the breakfast show. Trevor Nelson will step in to take over Scott's former weekday time slot.

Last month, Ball shared on Instagram that she frequently wakes up with severe headaches due to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder. This condition interferes with jaw movement and leads to discomfort in the joint and the nearby muscles, as explained by the NHS.
