A voter needed to get a new postal ballot because a dog had chewed up their original one, the council's top official has shared.

Tomorrow, residents of Suffolk will go to the polls to vote in the upcoming general election.

Some voters have already made their decision on which candidate they want to support and have sent in their vote through the mail.

The East Suffolk Council has mailed out 16,832 postal ballots to households in Suffolk Coastal and 14,373 to residents in Lowestoft constituency.

Chris Bally, who is the top official at East Suffolk Council, shared that a dog chewed up a postal vote belonging to one resident.

The local government had to send out 38 replacement postal slips, including one that was eaten by a dog and had to be resent to the resident.

Chris Bally, the head of East Suffolk Council, mentioned: "One person had their voting paper eaten by a dog, and another person accidentally threw theirs in the trash."

I believe all the mail-in ballots were sent before the deadline. We have received 11,000 postal votes for Suffolk Coastal and 10,000 for Lowestoft.

Once all the votes are tallied, Suffolk will now have eight MPs instead of seven because of the addition of the new Waveney Valley constituency.

During his interview with BBC Radio Suffolk’s Wayne Bavin, Mr Bally urged voters to remain calm and courteous while at polling stations. He emphasized the importance of patience during the voting process.

He stated that the amazing election crews have been working tirelessly and putting in a lot of effort to ensure that we are well-prepared for Thursday.

"It's been much more hectic than usual because typically by the first week of May, we have a good idea if an election is on the horizon.

Calling an election at a different time than planned requires some adjustments. However, this time it has been a very rushed process.

So please wait patiently - others will attend to you.
