Craig Bellamy was very impressed with how well Wales played in their match against Turkey in the Nations League. He said that this is only the beginning for his team and there is a lot of potential for even better performances in the future.
Bellamy showed off his bold and daring playing techniques as Wales shined in their match against the Euro 2024 quarter-finalists in Cardiff last Friday. Despite their control of the game, they were unable to secure a win.
The ex-Wales leader had a short four-day period to get his players ready for the match, but he was pleased with their performance before their upcoming game in Montenegro on Monday.
"The team performed exceptionally well. We have been busy this week with a lot of training sessions. We have held numerous meetings and I am constantly aware of the amount of information being given to the players in a limited timeframe," Bellamy commented.
"But they performed exceptionally well this week, which boosts our confidence. Trust me, this is the lowest point we will reach. As we continue to learn and work together, we pay more attention to the smaller details."
This is just the beginning for this team, and they have so much more potential waiting to be unleashed.
I may not be an expert yet after just one match, believe me. But I had fun. Playing against that team was a fantastic experience for my first game and I'm really pleased.
Bellamy had assured a unique way of playing and a distinct identity, which was evident in the match against Turkey, even though he had only been working with his team since the beginning of the week.
Team members were very positive about their new head coach's strict and detailed approach, both in training and when analyzing games, before the match.
The team followed Bellamy's directions very well, aggressively pushing Turkey without the ball and showing a fresh attacking mindset when they were in possession. They smoothly changed positions and consistently moved forward whenever they could.
"I am extremely happy. You just never know. Despite all my planning for every possible situation, including the worst-case scenarios, this game has taught me over the years as a player and coach to always be ready for whatever may happen during the game," Bellamy explained.
I spent a good amount of time studying Turkey, figuring out what their strong and weak points were, and then passing on that information to the players. Now, we just need to make some small adjustments to improve.
"They are a strong team with an excellent coach, they adjusted. Perhaps we could have adjusted more quickly when they made changes, but that's to be expected. It was fantastic."
At the same time, forward Kieffer Moore will have a head injury examined before Wales take on Montenegro.
During the game against Turkey, Moore entered the field as a substitute in the second half. Unfortunately, he suffered a head injury when Soyuncu accidentally hit him with his cleats.
"He was getting stitches. We are expecting some changes to happen quickly on Monday," Bellamy stated.
"We will adjust. Playing against Turkey is not the same as playing against Montenegro, so we will make some changes in how we prepare for that match, because every game requires a different approach."
