Who Is Victoria Starmer, Britain’s New “First Lady”?

Victoria Starmer

It's now confirmed: the votes have been counted, and the Labour Party has emerged victorious in the 2024 U.K. General Election. Keir Starmer will lead the country with a strong majority, preparing to move into Downing Street from his home in north London soon, accompanied by his wife Victoria Starmer. But who exactly is the new prime minister's wife and the new "first lady" of Britain?

Victoria is 51 years old and used to be a solicitor but now works as an NHS occupational therapist. She first met Keir when they were both working as lawyers. Keir called Victoria's office to ask about some documents' accuracy, and as he was about to hang up, he overheard Victoria saying, "Who does he think he is?" Keir described this as "classic Vic" in his interview with British Vogue in March 2024. They got married at the Fennes Estate in Essex in 2007 and have two children, a son who is 16 years old and a daughter who is 13 years old.

Victoria Alexander, previously known as Victoria, was raised in the Gospel Oak neighborhood of London. Her father was an economics professor, and her mother worked as a community doctor. She went to Channing School and later studied law and sociology at Cardiff University in the 1990s. Her first experience in politics came when she ran for president of Cardiff's Student Union and won by a large margin. After that, she volunteered for Tony Blair's campaign and eventually became a solicitor, working for a firm in Soho that focused on street crime.
