Liverpool will be well-represented in the Euro 2024 and Copa America finals this weekend, as four of their players will be participating. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez will be two of these players, following England's thrilling victory.

In the second Euro semi-final, Netherlands' Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch faced off against England's Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez. Ultimately, it was the duo from England who advanced to the next round.

Not surprisingly, Gareth Southgate chose to put both Liverpool defenders on the bench during Wednesday's game and did not call on them to play at all during the entire 90 minutes.

Van Dijk and Gakpo both played the entire game and were disappointed by a last-minute goal from Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins. The goal sealed a 2-1 victory for the Three Lions.

Xavi Simons gave the Dutch team an ideal beginning by scoring a well-placed shot in the sixth minute. However, controversy arose when England received a questionable penalty after VAR stepped in.

Denzel Dumfries was believed to have touched Harry Kane after he took his shot, most people agreed that it wasn't a penalty and that referee Felix Zwayer made a mistake.

"I was deeply saddened that the referee left swiftly after the game, I didn't even have a chance to shake his hand," said Van Dijk in an interview with beIN Sports after the match.

Virgil and Trent were spotted together in a photo.

The player wearing the number 4 jersey for Liverpool showed strong emotions as he dealt with his team's elimination from the competition. Thankfully, neither he nor his teammates will have to compete in a third-place match.

During the semi-final match, Van Dijk was successful in three out of four duels, made six clearances, had the highest number of touches among his Netherlands teammates with 76, but unfortunately did not win either of the tackles he attempted, according to FotMob.

"It's been a really challenging and exhausting year," Van Dijk stressed, highlighting the need for the three-week break that awaits him, Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch.

The three players will not return until early August for pre-season training, followed by Alexander-Arnold and Gomez.

England is set to face Spain in the Euro final on Sunday night at 8pm BST, and it seems highly unlikely that Southgate will reconsider his decision to include Alexander-Arnold and Gomez in the lineup.

Gomez has not been on the field at all during the tournament, while the player from Liverpool has played a total of 134 minutes after starting the first two group matches.

In the United States, either Alexis Mac Allister or Luis Diaz will be crowned champions of the Copa America, as Argentina and Colombia have made it to the final.

The game will begin at 1am (BST) on Monday morning, just a few hours after the Euro final ends.

Even though Uruguay did not make it to the next round against Colombia, Darwin Nunez still has more games to play in the third-place playoff against Brazil.

The players will all have at least three weeks off after finishing their international duties. This means the mentioned players will not be back until August.
