Liverpool injury crisis intensifies after Alexander-Arnold ruled out for ‘weeks’

Trent Alexander-Arnold

The list of players not able to play in Liverpool got even bigger on Tuesday because the assistant manager, Pepijn Lijnders, said Trent Alexander-Arnold hurt his knee and will need a few weeks to recover.

The deputy leader of the club experienced an injury during their winning match against Arsenal FA Cup on Sunday. This has caused trouble for manager Jürgen Klopp as he has to choose another player for the upcoming Carabao Cup semi-final against Fulham, which starts on Wednesday night at Anfield. Lijnders suggested that Alexander-Arnold would probably be out for three weeks.

Klopp's only positive news is that Virgil van Dijk, who couldn't play in the match in London because of sickness, will be able to play in the Carabao match.

Lijnders gave an overview regarding the progress of Dominik Szoboszlai, Andy Robertson, Kostas Tsimikas, Thiago Alcântara, and Stefan Bajcetic.

According to his statement to Liverpoolfc.com, there's a bit of bad news. Trent hyperextended his knee in the previous game and now has a small tear in the side ligament of his knee. A scan confirmed the injury and he'll need time to heal, so unfortunately he'll be out of action for a few weeks. We'll just have to wait and see how he progresses after that.

After a period of rest, he may return to his former state. This individual played a critical role in each game by regularly generating opportunities for us from the backline, and enhancing the team's adaptability to a high degree. We'll truly feel his absence.

Virgil has returned! Yesterday he ran on the field and looked like his old self. This means he will be joining the squad as he has made a successful recovery. Staying put rather than traveling to London has clearly been beneficial for him.

Dom is making good progress in his performance on the field by running, however, he will not be able to participate in tomorrow's game. As for Robbo, he is nearing the three-month milestone and is scheduled to undergo a medical examination by a surgeon.

If he undergoes the requested scan and we receive all the necessary information, we can work on advancing his progress. He will then travel to Dubai for a week to complete suitable training sessions and improve his abilities. After that, we'll perform another scan after three months and evaluate his readiness for contact activities.

Kostas is also making great strides and has shown rapid progress. It is anticipated that both Robbo and Kostas will return to team training by the end of this month.

Lijnders gave an update on Thiago and Bajcetic, stating that they won't be prepared by the end of this month. It's likely that they will join us for training in the following month. However, there have been no issues, and both players are progressing well.
