Gloucester-Hartpury secure top spot in Premiership Women's Rugby table, Saracens beat Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park - Eurosport
Gloucester-Hartpury has claimed the top spot in the Allianz Premiership Women's Rugby standings with two games remaining, following their impressive 59-12 victory over Trailfinders at Kingsholm.
The Circus is very close to achieving a remarkable undefeated season but their upcoming match against Saracens, who are in second place, will be their most challenging match so far. The game will take place at the StoneX Stadium next weekend.
Within five minutes, the hosts had scored seven points as Neve Jones successfully scored from a skillfully executed driving maul.
Next, Tatyana Heard unleashed an impressive kick that led to Emma Sing scoring their second point. Right after, Sarah Beckett delivered a successful cross from a powerful Circus scrum, expanding the score to 19-0.
Maud Muir hopped on top of Zoe Aldcroft's shoulder and headed towards the end of the field, managing to score Gloucester-Hartpury's fourth try. Right after, Bethan Lewis pushed through from a short distance and completed an incredible first half for the team.
Just nine minutes after the game resumed, Gloucester-Hartpury's winger, Mia Venner, scored a try in the corner, bringing the score to 38-0.
Cerys Hale made a sharp turn and scored from a distance of two meters, followed by Venner's second goal in the 50th minute.
She teamed up with Alex Matthews, who plays for Red Roses, and made a smooth shot into the corner of the field from the right wing.
Trailfinders demonstrated remarkable determination to change the outcome of the game and score a point. Amanda McQuade managed to cross the line after a fantastic play set up by Rosie Inman.
Inman and McQuade teamed up once again to score an extraordinary try, as the winger crossed the try line following amazing offloads from both players, which managed to break the defence of Gloucester-Hartpury.
But ultimately, the Circus came out on top, thanks to Lewis' second successful try, securing a convincing victory of 59-12.
Saracens Make History With Win At Chiefs
Saracens achieved their inaugural victory in an away game against Exeter Chiefs by dominating with a score of 57-7 at Sandy Park.
The Women in Black and Chiefs have been known as some of the top teams in women's rugby for a while. However, during their recent match, Sarries proved to be far superior and moved closer to securing a spot in the semifinals.
Within just 92 seconds, Sydney Gregson took charge and scored a goal for the visiting team. Not long after, Donna Rose, Coreen Grant, and Sarah McKenna each added to the score, bringing it up to 26-0 in under 25 minutes.
In the 32nd minute, Gregson scored her second goal and shortly after, Ella Wyrwas rushed over to the corner, increasing the score to 38-0 by half-time.
After the break, Wyrwas scored another goal. However, Chiefs managed to score a try thanks to Katie Buchanan. Later on, McKenna scored another goal for Sarries which took their total score up to 50.
Bryony Field scored her first goal of the game to secure a momentous victory for the visiting team.
Bears Triumph Over Tigers With Jackson's Debut Goal
Bristol Bears achieved a victory of 62-24 against Leicester Tigers at Ashton Gate, while Bobbie Jackson made a remarkable debut by scoring a goal.
The game started well for the Bears with Keira Bevan doing a great job. However, the Tigers responded with a score by their hooker Amy Cokayne. Then, the hosts pushed ahead with a fantastic play by Millie David, who ran in from 30 metres out and scored, making it 12-5 for the home team.
Simi Pam and Charlotte Fray scored tries before Bevan scored her second try, allowing Bears to earn a bonus point.
During the first half, Rownita Marston-Mulhearn scored and made the score 33-12. However, in the second half of the game, Natasha Jones retaliated, and the difference in score decreased to only 16 points.
Nevertheless, Ella Lovibond managed to complete two crossings before Hannah Botterman succeeded in scoring a try with the assistance of some excellent support play.
Cokayne scored a second goal, increasing their score to 52-24. However, the Bears had the last opportunity to score as Alisha Joyce-Butchers and newcomer Jackson both scored, concluding the match on a high note.
