The yearly U18 Mountain Cup will be held in Montaña Palentina, Spain this Saturday.

Young runners from Europe and other countries will face the challenge of a 6k trail with a total ascent and descent of 290m.

Scottish Athletics is excited this year to offer an international racing opportunity in Spain to eight young Scottish hill runners.

In the past, we have chosen six athletes for this event. However, due to the high level of talent in our age group for hill running, scottishathletics decided to increase the number of athletes selected for this opportunity. They believe this decision is the right one based on the performances seen at the trials.

Elsa McGregor from the Edinburgh Athletics Club, Ava Richardson from Gala, Jessica Taylor from Edinburgh Athletics Club, and Ruth Walsh from Giffnock North are all featured in the blog.

James Alexander from Garscube, Andrew Grant from Strathearn, Rowan Taylor from Lasswade, and Lachlan Thomas from Ross County.

It's wonderful that seven different clubs were represented, spanning the entire country from Ross County in the north to Gala Harriers in the Borders.

Well done to all the young athletes, their families, and coaches for making it onto the Scotland team! Best of luck in the upcoming races on Saturday.
