It's still unclear if Showtrial will return for a third season since the series hasn't been officially confirmed for renewal yet.

It definitely appears that the production team, along with Ben Richards, the creator and showrunner, has a genuine intention behind their work.

In a recent Q&A and screening event, executive producer Simon Heath shared, "We have a concept for a third season that involves a unique approach to a murder case, which would feature a completely different cast of characters."

The outcome appears to depend largely on how many people tune in for season 2. We'll make sure to keep this page updated with any news about the show’s future from the BBC.

There was a long wait between the first and second seasons; it took a full three years after the initial season was released for the second season to premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Since it appears that plans for a third season are already underway, let's hope that it comes out sooner than expected.

Nonetheless, it appears that the soonest a new season might debut on BBC One and BBC iPlayer is late 2025, although a release in 2026 seems more probable.

The second season of Showtrial explored a completely new case, featuring a completely different set of characters compared to the first season. If the series continues for a third season, it appears that this trend will likely continue.

Ben Richards, the creator, recently shared that one of his motivations for introducing new characters was to maintain a sense of "basic realism." He felt it was improbable that the same lawyers would be involved in another case that was so similar and received such widespread attention.

During a Q&A session for the series, when he was questioned about the possibility of bringing back characters from Season 2, such as Adeel Akhtar's Sam and Nathalie Armin's Leila, Richards suggested it would be best to direct that question to executive producers Mr. Simon Heath or Miss Emma Luffingham.

I believe that's a topic worth discussing. The challenge, and I hope it doesn’t come across as cliché, is that I can see some of the other talented actors involved who contributed to its excellence. It’s truly a team effort. That’s the issue; it would be tough to highlight just one of them.

"Clearly, the suspects are no longer around. I really appreciate the suspects each time, and I wish I could see more of them, but they've disappeared. However, sometimes you just have to let go and move forward."

Heath mentioned that he would "never rule out" the possibility of reintroducing old characters, but emphasized that the concept for season 3 involves introducing new ones.

When discussing the possibility of creating a spin-off featuring some characters from season 2, he mentioned, "It's possible that the BBC will approve both projects."

Overall, it appears that we probably won't encounter any characters from seasons 1 or 2 in the future. Instead, if the show comes back, we can expect to dive into a completely new storyline with different characters.
