Reaction: Pollock On Sheffield Wednesday & First League Start Of Season

Sheffield Wednesday

Mattie Pollock had a conversation with watfordfc.com following the draw of 0-0 between the Hornets and Sheffield Wednesday in the Sky Bet Championship.

The defender talked about a difficult game at Hillsborough and his debut in the league season as the Hornets achieved their first game without conceding a goal in 15 games.

Take a look at his words down below...

The guys in there seem quite displeased. They were hoping for a win, but settling for a tie is better than losing altogether. We didn't allow the other team to score, which is a good thing. Although we fell into their gameplay a bit, I still think we played a solid game.

It was a challenging location to play due to the environment, and the playing field made it difficult. The team is unhappy with the result, but ultimately we gained one point rather than none. We must continue to work hard and have a positive outlook as we prepare for our upcoming game this weekend.

It's been a bummer that we haven't been able to keep more clean sheets. When I haven't been on the field, I've noticed how Porty, Wes, and Cisco have had some tough breaks too. There have definitely been times when we should have been able to keep a clean sheet, but we fell slightly short.

As a defender, the preservation of a clean sheet is of utmost importance to me. Not only does it serve as a tremendous source of confidence, but it also denotes a favorable start in the league. Furthermore, as a team, we strive to maintain this standard collectively and continue to expand upon it.

This season has been a challenging one for me to earn an opportunity. Fortunately, the manager has exhibited some trust in me, and my goal is to reciprocate that trust not only to him but also to my teammates who have supported me throughout this trying period. I am thoroughly enjoying every moment of playing and would gladly play in every match if given the chance, which player wouldn't?

It has taken a while to play back-to-back games here. I was sent out on two different loan spells, so it's great to finally have played two games in a row. I hope this trend continues.

Consistency is key for me. I had not started a match in eight months, so it was quite challenging for me when I played against Southampton on Sunday and had to quickly adapt again.

It's important to take a break, heal and pay attention to the physiotherapists and staff. Personally, I'm truly enjoying the experience of playing games. Being on the field, hearing the fans, feeling the pressure that comes with playing - it's all part of the thrill and I relish every moment of it.
