Anthony Musaba earns Sheffield Wednesday late victory over in-form West Brom

Sheffield Wednesday

In a thrilling Championship match, substitute Anthony Musaba netted the decisive goal in the 86th minute, leading Sheffield Wednesday to a stunning 3-2 victory against the top-performing West Brom at home.

The Baggies rallied after being two goals behind, with second-half goals from Josh Maja and Alex Mowatt equalizing Darnell Furlong's own goal and a header from Josh Windass. However, Musaba's late goal put an end to their unbeaten run at the start of the season.

Wednesday's win marked their first league victory since the season began.

The Wednesday lineup featured two adjustments: Ike Ugbo and Michael Ihiekwe were brought in to replace Michael Smith and the suspended Di’Shon Bernard. Meanwhile, for the visiting team, Ousmane Diakite took Mowatt's place, who was listed on the bench.

The home team came out strong, with Barry Bannan launching an overhead kick from just outside the box, but his shot sailed over the crossbar after a good play.

Bannan played a key role in the first goal scored in the ninth minute by passing to Marvin Johnson. Johnson took a shot from the left side that deflected off Furlong, sending the ball past goalkeeper Alex Palmer and into the back of the net.

West Brom aimed to bounce back quickly, and Maja posed a danger inside the box after getting a pass from Tom Fellows. However, his attempt on goal was deflected off target.

In the 23rd minute, Windass extended the home team's lead by expertly heading in a fantastic cross from Akin Famewo.

Bannan later fired a long shot that went over the goal, while Olaf Kobacki's angled attempt required a save from Palmer.

Goalkeeper James Beadle saved the day on Wednesday by charging out of his area to stop Karlan Grant, who was set up by Maja.

Just before halftime, Palmer had two quick saves, denying shots from Liam Palmer and Johnson.

At the beginning of the second half, Albion made a substitution, bringing Mowatt on for Diakite.

Kyle Bartley scored for the away team with a header following a free kick.

Albion manager Carlos Corberan made two changes after an hour of play, bringing on Mikey Johnston and Grady Diangana to replace Uros Racic and Grant.

It didn't take long for Maja to make an impact, cutting Wednesday's lead in half in the 65th minute. He headed the ball into the net after a well-placed cross from Fellows, which followed some excellent effort by Diangana.

Albion brought the score level in the 84th minute when Mowatt struck a powerful shot from just outside the box, sending the ball soaring over Beadle.

However, the home team wasn't finished yet, and just two minutes later, Musaba scored the decisive goal by tapping it in from a short distance after receiving a low cross from Bannan.
