St Mirren player Shaun Rooney has been officially accused of attacking an 18-year-old woman at a takeaway in Glasgow.

The defendant is also accused of disturbing the peace in connection with an 18-year-old man during the event that occurred on September 19.

Police Scotland has stated that the recent charge is being classified as a hate crime.

The Paisley club previously announced that the 28-year-old has been suspended while a precautionary investigation is underway regarding an "alleged incident." As a result, he won't be participating in any upcoming matches for the Premiership team.

A representative from the police department stated, "A 28-year-old individual has been taken into custody and faced charges for attacking an 18-year-old woman and disturbing the peace involving an 18-year-old man at a takeaway restaurant on Queen Street in Glasgow during the early hours of Thursday, September 19."

He was let go with a promise to come back to the Glasgow Sheriff Court on a future date.

This year, Rooney became a member of St Mirren, having previously played for various teams in both Scotland and England.

This season, he has played in 10 matches for the team from Paisley.

St Mirren's boss, Stephen Robinson, stated that decisions regarding Rooney are made by the board and that he is focused on the team's performance as they prepare for their match against Motherwell on Saturday.
