Serie A

Ademola Lookman netted a late goal that secured a 2-1 victory for Atalanta over AC Milan at the Gewiss Stadium, propelling his team to the top of the Serie A standings.

Former Milan forward Charles De Ketelaere kicked off the scoring for Atalanta in the first half, but Alvaro Morata quickly brought the game back to equal terms just 10 minutes later.

Nonetheless, Lookman scored the decisive goal in the 88th minute, leading Atalanta to their ninth consecutive victory in Serie A. This win allowed them to move two points ahead of Napoli at the top of the league, although they've played one more match than the Neapolitans.

At the same time, AC Milan, which had been experiencing a slight turnaround in Serie A, currently finds itself in seventh place with 22 points.

Atalanta's next challenge is a UEFA Champions League match against the current European champions, Real Madrid, scheduled for Tuesday night.

On Wednesday night, Milan will face off against Red Star Belgrade in the same tournament. Fans can catch both matches live on TNT Sports and discovery+.

In the 11th minute, De Ketelaere from Atalanta, who had a tough season without scoring while at Milan in 2022/23, managed to rise above Theo Hernandez and head the ball into the net against his old team.

Milan reacted swiftly, with Rafael Leao racing down the left side. He sent a low cross into the penalty area, which Morata then redirected into the net.

The game saw a drop in intensity around half-time, but Atalanta managed to regain their dominance towards the end of the second half.

In the end, Gian Piero Gasperini's team secured the victory when Sead Kolasinac deflected an Atalanta corner to the far post, allowing Lookman to nod the ball into the goal.

In stoppage time, Atalanta came close to extending their lead to 3-1, but Mike Maignan managed to stop Mateo Retegui, the leading goal scorer in Serie A, in a one-on-one situation.
