Selena Gomez joins Bloomberg billionaire celebrity rich list

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez became famous when she was just a kid, appearing on the TV shows Barney and the Disney Channel. Now, she has achieved billionaire status.

The 32-year-old entertainer, who is both a movie star and a music artist, has accumulated a wealth of $1.3 billion, as reported by Bloomberg. This prestigious financial news outlet has recently included the famous person on its list of billionaires.

The article mentioned that her riches primarily stemmed from her cosmetics brand, Rare Beauty, which she started five years ago and still owns a share worth over $1 billion, according to the magazine's calculations.

The brand's achievements have led her to be recognized as one of the youngest self-made wealthy women, joining the ranks of popular figures like Taylor Swift and Rihanna.

Rare Beauty, famous for its popular liquid blush and lip tint products that have gone viral on social media, reportedly generated $400 million in net sales during the 12-month period leading up to February.

Gomez has also earned tens of millions of dollars through partnerships with brands such as Louis Vuitton, Coach, and Puma, as reported by Bloomberg.

The article mentioned that she was earning a minimum of $6 million per season for her role in the popular Hulu show "Only Murders in the Building", which has been confirmed to return for another season.

Even though she has had success in movies and music, including being nominated for Emmy and Grammy Awards, those accomplishments only make up a small portion of her overall wealth, according to Bloomberg.

Gomez, who is from Texas, has been in the spotlight for almost thirty years. Throughout her career, she has faced criticism about her fashion choices, romantic relationships, and health struggles. These challenges have included being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and the autoimmune condition lupus.

She has shared the story of her family's travel to the United States from Mexico, beginning with her aunt "concealed in the rear of a truck" and singing songs in Spanish.

Last year, the singer gained the highest number of followers on Instagram out of all women worldwide.

She has over 424 million followers on the platform, surpassing Swift and Kylie Jenner. This is an interesting achievement for a celebrity who has talked about how using the platform has affected her mental health and has even deactivated her account at times.

On Friday, the account was silent as news of her most recent award made the rounds in the headlines.

During a conversation with BBC1 almost ten years ago, Ms. Gomez discussed the length of her career and how she has been able to sustain it despite being young.

"It's strange that it's been nearly twenty years...am I over the hill?" she quipped, mentioning that she still had more goals she wanted to accomplish.

"You know what's insane, is that many times I don't even feel like I've begun," she mentioned.
