Fans gathered at South Parade Pier in Southsea, Hampshire, to catch a glimpse of the 43-year-old Barbie star filming Project Hail Mary. This sci-fi film tells the story of a teacher who becomes an astronaut on a quest to rescue the planet from imminent destruction.

Inspired by Andy Weir's 2021 novel, Ryan plays the role of Ryland Grace, a man who awakens from a strange coma, struggling with memory loss. As time goes on, he begins to piece together that he has an important mission to complete.

Replacing Ken's sunglasses and pink fur coat with a yellow windbreaker and some glasses, the Hollywood star was full of joy, sharing laughter and jokes with his fellow actors and the crew after wrapping up a scene.

As fans made their way to the wet beach, hoping to spot the actor, film trucks and small vans were stationed close by. At the pier's edge, crew members chatted with fishermen, brought together by one common interest:

Their role today is all about enjoying the beach.

Ryan has been working on Project Hail Mary for four years, and it is scheduled to be released on May 20, 2026.

The IMDb description states: "Taking place in the not-too-distant future, the story follows Ryland Grace, a junior high school teacher who becomes an astronaut. He awakens from a coma, struggling with memory loss."

He slowly starts to recall that he was dispatched to the Tau Ceti solar system, which is located 12 light-years from Earth. His mission was to discover a way to counteract a solar dimming event that poses a serious threat to humanity's survival.

The movie is helmed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the directors behind the LEGO Movie, and features performances from Milana Vayntrub and Sandra Hüller.

This is the third adaptation of Andy Weir's work for Hollywood. He is also known for writing The Martian, which featured Matt Damon.

Directors Lord and Miller are presently developing a film based on his 2017 novel, Artemis. This science fiction story centers around a porter and smuggler living in the far-off moon city of Artemis.

The teacher wearing a tie and a windbreaker presents a notable appearance for the La La Land star, who recently portrayed the rugged Colt Seavers in the action-comedy film The Fall Guy.

Alongside Emily Blunt, he portrayed a self-assured Hollywood stunt performer who is on a quest to find a vanished actress while simultaneously attempting to rekindle his romance with the woman he loves, Jody Moreno, played by Blunt.

In a surprising appearance, Ryan grabbed attention at the film’s premiere by attending dressed as the laid-back teenager Beavis from Beavis and Butt-head. He was joined by SNL star Mikey Day, who portrayed the other half of the duo.

Earlier this year, viewers found themselves captivated by the Blade Runner 2049 actor once more, as they revisited his performance in the often-overlooked thriller, Fracture.

Directed by Gregory Hoblit, the movie features Ryan as ambitious attorney Willy Beachum, who discovers unexpected challenges while handling what appears to be a straightforward case with Sir Anthony Hopkins' character.

As of early August, streaming experts at JustWatch reported that the movie was the most popular choice among viewers in Ireland.
