In court, a teacher admitted to feeling isolated and craving attention following a breakup. However, she refuted allegations of engaging in any sexual behavior with underage individuals.

During her trial at Manchester Crown Court, Rebecca Joynes, who is 30 years old, shared that she had been facing difficulties due to the Covid lockdown and the end of her relationship.

She was fired from her job at a high school and was allowed to leave prison on bail under suspicion of having sexual relations with a boy who was fifteen years old (Boy A). After that, she allegedly had sexual relations with another boy who was sixteen years old and ended up becoming pregnant by him.

Ms Joynes has refuted six allegations of engaging in sexual activity with two adolescent students while she held a position as a teacher.

Both adolescents cannot be identified due to legal requirements.

During the cross-examination, Prosecutor Joe Allman inquired Ms. Joynes regarding the pink infant bonnet she had put inside her trousers, questioning whether she was aiming to elicit empathy from the jury.

"Absolutely not," said Ms. Joynes. "I always keep this with me while sleeping."

Mr. Allman went on to say that if an adult engages in an inappropriate relationship with a child aged 13, 14, or 15, it is solely the adult's responsibility. The child's behavior, such as being provocative or initiating contact, has no bearing on the situation.

"Negative," stated Ms. Joynes.

Mr. Allman inquired if you were strongly sexually attracted to boys who are 15 years old.

"No way," Ms Joynes replied.

According to Mr. Allman, Boy A resided at her apartment and material indicating sexual behavior was located.

After their encounter, Boy B returned to her apartment and she later discovered that she was pregnant as a result.

During the trial, the lawyer emphasized to the jury that Boy A had deceived his mother to meet with Ms Joynes. She then drove him to the Trafford Centre mall, where she purchased an expensive Gucci belt for him. Afterwards, they proceeded to Ms Joyne's apartment located in Salford Quays.

Ms Joynes confessed that she exchanged messages with Boy A on Snapchat. She also consented to him staying over at her place but he ended up sleeping on her couch.

Her lawyer, Michael O'Brien, asked her a question and she replied by saying that she intended to order some food. However, Boy A was not interested in eating anything. After a pause, he uttered the words: "I believe you understand what I desire to do?"

According to Ms Joynes, she let out a nervous laugh and proceeded to sit beside him on the sofa.

Attention Was Enjoyable

I believed he desired a certain outcome, but it was impossible for that to occur.

I shared that I was previously in a long-lasting nine-year romance and found it very challenging to move on. I'm not typically someone who experiences difficulty with separation.

She remarked: "It was inappropriate for me as an educator to have any kind of communication."

I succumbed to the affection he was displaying towards me. I experienced significant difficulties during the Covid-19 period.

It is apparent that I was experiencing feelings of isolation, and I enjoyed receiving affection during that period.

She got arrested and suspended from her job while police looked into the accusations against Boy A. Later, she was released on bail.

Currently, Ms Joynes was communicating with Boy B through social media even though she was restricted from contacting individuals under 18.

Joynes expressed her curiosity when Boy B got in touch with her on Snapchat, and she sincerely believed that he was concerned.

She said they didn't have sex until after she lost her job, and that's when she became pregnant.

Their child was removed from them after an urgent court hearing that took place one day after birth.

Three times per week, she is given permission to have communication for a duration of three hours.

Ms Joynes has refused to accept charges of having sexual involvement with a child on six occasions. Amongst those six instances, two of them happened while she held a position of authority over the child.
