Rebecca Joynes: Teenager who fathered child with jailed teacher says he loved her after being 'coerced and controlled'
A young boy who had a child with his teacher, Rebecca Joynes, who is now in jail, shared that he once loved her but now realizes the "complete harm and mistreatment I experienced".
The young person, known as boy B, shared their thoughts on the impact of the crime after Joynes was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison last Thursday.
Boy B explained that Joynes manipulated and influenced him before they engaged in sexual activity. He thinks that if a teenage girl had been abused by a male teacher, she would have received more assistance and care.
Joynes got pregnant after having intercourse with boy B while out on bail for engaging in sexual activity with another adolescent named boy A.
The 30-year-old was convicted of six charges for having sex with a child, two of which were committed while in a position of authority, with regards to the two boys in May.
The teenagers, who were students at the same school where Joynes used to teach, were both manipulated by her starting from when they were 15 years old.
'A time of great darkness'
In a statement read by a victim after Joynes was found guilty on Thursday, the young boy expressed his difficulty accepting the abuse he endured. He was in denial and found it hard to cope with what happened to him.
He exclaimed, "I would defend her tirelessly, even to the point of exhaustion, and refuse to listen to any criticism against her. I had a strong sense of guilt as if I had hurt someone dear to me by testifying."
The young adult expressed feelings of intense guilt and wondered if he should be speaking publicly about the woman who was pregnant with his baby.
"Ever since that time, I've been going over many thoughts in my mind and talking to numerous individuals, which has helped me understand the complete scope of the mistreatment I endured and the strategies that were employed against me," he added.
I was forced and manipulated, sexually exploited, and emotionally mistreated. The period following the abuse was very difficult for me, I felt trapped.

'These offenses are often overlooked'
Boy B explained that he ended up graduating from school with top grades. He mentioned that his parents were constantly struggling to get him to open up and talk about his struggles. He believed that it was best for him to handle his issues on his own because his situation was unusual and not easy for others to understand.
He stated: "The discrimination and inequity I have experienced is ridiculous. I believe that because of my gender, this is perceived as a less serious offense than it would be if the roles were reversed.
I began receiving grooming when I was 15 years old, and I have been searching for services that help teenage boys like me with sexual abuse counseling and support.
There are many young women and children affected by these crimes. It seems like these incidents often go unnoticed because men tend to keep their emotions to themselves. I hope there will be more support services available for them in the future.

Boy B also mentioned that Joynes had not shown any remorse and he feels that neither she nor her family think she has done anything incorrect.
He mentions that he faces difficulty with the thought of starting a new relationship because of the "unpleasant experience I had with Rebecca."
Boy B went on to say: "I never imagined this is how I wanted my child to grow up. I always pictured having children with someone I cared for, in a loving and secure home, similar to how I was raised. Unfortunately, that dream is not a reality."
In the end, I will always be impacted by Rebecca and connected to her forever because of our child.
Joynes welcomed their son into the world in early 2024, but unfortunately, he was separated from her within a day.
Boy B informed the police that Joynes had told him she was unable to conceive a child and that they had engaged in sexual intercourse without using protection. However, Joynes later found out that she was actually pregnant.
Before she was taken into custody for the second time, Joynes asked him to come to her apartment for a special evening together. They planned to use an Ann Summers scratchcard with various sexual activities, scatter rose petals around, and enjoy some unexpected surprises, according to the court testimony.
In the end, it turned out to be a baby onesie with the words "World's Greatest Dad" printed on the front.
Boy B exclaimed to the police, "I was thinking, 'What the heck!'"
