Rebecca Joynes: Teacher guilty of sex with two boys

Rebecca Joynes

A school educator has been convicted of engaging in sexual activity with two male students.

According to Manchester Crown Court, Rebecca Joynes, who is 30 years old, had initiated the grooming of two boys from when they were 15 years old.

Joynes was found guilty of committing four instances of sexual activity with a minor and two instances of sexual activity with another underage individual.

She was released on bail for engaging in sexual activity with the first child, identified as boy A, when she started engaging in sexual activity with the second, boy B, with whom she later became pregnant.

Both teenagers should not be named.

Joynes shut her eyes and winced before starting to tremble as the jury foreman proclaimed the verdicts of guilt.

The parents were seated in the audience area but did not respond in any way.

The parents of the boys who were present at the scene were forced to contain their excitement as Joynes was found guilty, only a short distance away from them.

Magistrate Kate Cornell cautioned Joynes that a young child is involved in this situation who is blameless and has not committed any offenses. It is apparent that you will desire to lay eyes on the child ahead of sentencing, and I comprehend that sentiment.

"However, you should not be misled about the events that will take place on Independence Day."

Michael O'Brien, the defense lawyer, is currently requesting for a release on bail.

In 2018, Joynes became a member of the school faculty through the Teach First program for teacher recruitment, having previously pursued a degree in sports and exercise science.

In the court, it was mentioned that she was 28 years old, had recently ended a nine-year relationship and was pleased by the admiration she received from high school students.

A young man named A was able to discover a girl's phone number by obtaining all of the digits except one. As a result, the two were able to connect on the social media platform known as Snapchat.

He sent her playful messages and they arranged a covert meeting.

On Friday after school, Boy A informed his mother that he would be spending the night over at a friend's place. In reality, Joynes came and took him in her Audi A1. They went to the Trafford Centre where Joynes purchased a £350 Gucci belt for Boy A, who pretended that he had not received the gift.

Upon returning to her apartment, they shared two rounds of kissing and engaged in sexual activity.

The following day, the son's mom observed a mark on his neck caused by sucking, which he didn't pay much attention to.

However, the police were informed and they went to the school with the concerned mother of boy A. She rushed into the reception area after she was informed that her son had spent the night with a teacher. She was very upset.

Joynes was granted bail but on the terms that she is not allowed to have any unsupervised interaction with minors under the age of 18.

She stated that she experienced a period of emotional distress and relocated to her parents' home in Wirral.

When boy B sent her a message on Snapchat asking about her well-being, she was feeling down.

"I truly believed he had concern," Joynes expressed.

Joynes returned to Salford Quays where Boy B paid a visit and they engaged in sexual intercourse for the first instance.

She got taken into custody for violating the terms of her bail and remained confined for a period of five months. Eventually, she was granted bail in November of the preceding year and later on gave birth in early 2024.

According to Jane Wilson, who is the senior crown prosecutor for CPS North West, Rebecca Joynes is identified as a sexual predator.

She used her authority to manipulate and sexually take advantage of male students. Her actions have caused lasting harm to the students.
