Princess Anne remains in hospital for second day

The Princess Royal is staying in the hospital for a second day to receive treatment for a slight head injury and concussion believed to be caused by a horse.

Princess Anne, who is 73 years old, is doing well and is on the road to recovery after the accident on her estate in Gloucestershire that occurred on Sunday, according to Buckingham Palace. It is anticipated that she will fully recover from the incident.

However, she won't be able to attend the formal dinner with the Emperor and Empress of Japan and her visit to Canada scheduled for this week has been moved to a later date.

The King has sent his warmest greetings and hopes for a quick recovery to the princess. In addition, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer have also sent their regards.

The Princess Royal was hurt on Sunday night while she was taking a walk on her property and horses were close by.

The princess can't remember what happened on Sunday evening because of her concussion.

The doctors said that her head injury matches the kind of damage that could be caused by a horse's legs or head.

The authorities were contacted to respond to the situation at the estate, and the princess was transported to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

Her husband, Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, along with their daughter, Zara, and son, Peter, were on the property when the incident occurred. Tim Laurence then accompanied her to the hospital.

The princess is awake and is expected to remain in the hospital until later this week "as a precaution for observation", according to a statement from Buckingham Palace on Monday.

Southmead is a hospital that is part of the NHS and the North Bristol NHS Trust. It offers a variety of specialized medical services, such as neuroscience.

A spokesperson from Buckingham Palace mentioned that Her Royal Highness is doing well in her recovery, feeling comfortable, and is being kept in the hospital for further observation as a precaution.

The spokesperson also mentioned that due to medical advice, Her Royal Highness will not be attending any events for the upcoming week. She apologizes to anyone who may be affected or let down by this decision.

Based on information from the NHS, a concussion can occur when the brain experiences a temporary injury due to impact from a bump, blow, or jolt.

This can lead to memory loss, fatigue, and difficulty focusing, and it may take a few weeks to fully recover.

During the week, the princess had a number of activities on her agenda, such as the Japanese state visit, along with other commitments in Scotland, Hampshire, and Gloucestershire.

Princess Anne being hospitalized is the most recent health issue affecting the Royal Family.

This year, both King Charles and the Princess of Wales have been diagnosed with cancer, which has resulted in a decrease in their public appearances.

At the same time, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan are starting a three-day official visit to the United Kingdom.

The visitors will be greeted with a special reception and a ride in a carriage along the Mall, followed by a grand dinner held by King Charles III at Buckingham Palace.

However, due to the upcoming general-election campaign, the Japanese royal couple will not be able to visit Downing Street.
