The 73-year-old Princess Royal, an equestrian who has won Olympic medals, was strolling on her Gloucestershire property on Sunday evening when the accident occurred.

Emergency responders were called to the property and, after receiving medical attention on site, the princess was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol for necessary tests, medical care, and monitoring.

Buckingham Palace announced that Princess Anne was injured and suffered a concussion during an incident at the Gatcombe Park estate last night.

The Queen is still at Southmead Hospital in Bristol to be watched over and is predicted to get better quickly.

The King has been regularly updated and he, along with the entire royal family, sends his deepest love and best wishes to the princess for a quick recovery.

The princess was strolling inside the secure boundaries of Gatcombe Park when the incident took place.

The medical team cannot say for sure what caused the injuries, but they believe that Anne's head injuries could have been caused by a horse's head or legs hitting her.

The emergency services were sent to the mansion, and the princess was treated by paramedics on site.

She was moved to a hospital for examinations, medical care, and monitoring, and her husband Vice Admiral Tim Laurence was by her side.

Anne will have to skip some events this week, like the fancy dinner for the visit from Japan on Tuesday and a trip to Canada.

An official from the Palace stated that due to medical advice, Her Royal Highness will be rescheduling her planned events for the upcoming week. She apologizes to anyone who may be affected by these changes.

The Japanese State Visit will continue as scheduled, but unfortunately, Her Royal Highness will not be able to make it to the State banquet tomorrow.

Princess Anne is well-known for her passion for horses and holds the distinction of being the initial Royal Family member to compete in the Olympic Games, riding in the three-day equestrian competition in 1976.

The princess received more compliments for her horseback riding abilities earlier this month when her horse became frightened at Trooping the Colour.

She managed to calm down the anxious horse without causing any disturbance to the parade.

The Princess Royal was riding next to Prince William and Prince Edward when the incident happened. In the footage, Edward can be seen turning back when he noticed something was wrong with the horse Noble.

Zara Tindall mentioned that the princess still loves horse riding many years after competing in the Olympics in Montreal, Canada.

"Our horses are like part of our family, so we always talk about their performances and things like that," she shared with PEOPLE last year.

She has horses that are an important part of her life, and she also breeds them. This means that horse talk is a regular topic of conversation for her.
