Pompey Women 3 MK Dons 0

Portsmouth FC

Pompey reached the highest position in the National League rankings by winning 3-0 against MK Dons at Westleigh Park.

At the beginning of each half, Beth Lumsden successfully scored a goal. Jazz Younger also managed to hit the target, making for an easy afternoon for the team.

Jay Sadler decided to switch up the team by making four modifications from the squad that won against the same opponent in the cup game last week.

Jazz Younger, Izzy Collins, Dani Lane, and Sophie Quirk were all in the starting line-up again, while Evie Gane, Ella Wild, Georgie Freeland, and Emily Pitman were replaced and moved to the bench.

The Blues scored the first goal just as the 30-second mark was about to expire, which helped calm any worries that may have existed before the game began.

LUMSDEN got the ball while being 25 yards away from the goalpost, and made a strong attempt. Chloe Sansom couldn't prevent it from entering the goalpost.

The guests attempted to retaliate, but Hannah Haughton didn't have too much difficulty blocking shots from Lucy Wood and Emily Wilson.

Pompey were demonstrating superior accuracy in their playing, and increased their lead when YOUNGER jumped up and used his head to score from a corner kick taken by Emma Jones.

Just a few moments after that, they had a chance to score another goal when Jones caught a throw from Barrett and forced Sansom to make a save.

The situation got worse for MK Dons as Wilson was disciplined by the referee for showing discontent and was consequently sent off temporarily.

Despite their difficulties, they continued to persevere and Zoe Creaney managed to deflect Gemma Biggadike's corner kick over the crossbar.

Intermission Update: Portsmouth is leading the game against Milton Keynes Dons with a score of 2-0.

The Pompey team managed to score right after the match began before half-time, and they were able to do it again at the beginning of the second half.

LUMSDEN scored again, hitting the ball hard into the top of the net, following a pass from Quirk who found him positioned at the far end of the post.

They attempted to maintain their forward movement and Dani Lane just managed to jump over the crossbar after some strong teamwork from Quirk and Ava Rowbotham.

Sansom had to make another save when Lumsden received the ball and quickly struck a volley towards the goal, but the goalkeeper managed to block it.

Although, the hosts needed to stay attentive on their defensive end, Haughton managed to block Laura Mitchell's attempt near the goal.

Sadler looked towards the substitutes' bench to make some changes, since the Blues felt confident that they would win and score three points.

The winning margin could have potentially been larger if Freeland, who came in as a substitute, had received Jones' pass and rolled the ball just a bit closer to the goalpost.

The Pompey team's lineup for the match was as follows: Haughton served as captain, Barrett was replaced by Wild at the 72nd minute, Younger was substituted by Gane at the 68th minute, Casley and Collins played in defense, Hall, Rowbotham, and Lane formed the midfield with Freeland replacing Lane at the 72nd minute, while Lumsden, Jones, and Quirk formed the attack. Humphrey did not enter the game.
