Poland Defeated By Austria: 1-3

Category D: Gernot Trauner, Christoph Baumgartner, and Marko Arnautovic scored the goals that helped Austria earn the victory and essentially eliminated Polish hopes in the competition. Ben Fisher shares the details from the Olympiastadion in Berlin...

Austria's Gernot Trauner, Christoph Baumgartner, and Marco Arnautovic scored goals for the team. Ralf Rangnick's players were all exceptional in their performance. The team showed great teamwork and even the substitutes made valuable contributions. Currently, three out of the four teams in the group have earned three points each.

Poland Loses To Austria 1-3

Austria won the game that was crucial for both teams, earning three points. Poland's chances of advancing to the last 16 are very low and will be eliminated if France defeats the Netherlands tonight.

The football match was great, and Austria played really well to earn the win. They are a strong team that will be a tough opponent for any team in the playoffs, if they reach that stage.

In the last moments of the game, Poland tried to score by attacking on the right side. Unfortunately, the cross was too high for Lewandowski and Grosicki's shot missed. The match has ended in Berlin and Austria has rightfully won the game.

In the 92nd minute, Austria's offensive move down the left side once more. Konrad Laimer sends a well-placed pass towards the goal line for Gregoritsch to go after. However, the ball has too much force and goes out of bounds, despite the substitute's efforts to save it. Interestingly, it is Austria who are playing with urgency, as if they are the team trailing and in need of scoring two goals.

90 minutes have passed and Poland is desperately trying to score a goal, but they are not showing any signs of success. They will have four additional minutes to try and make a comeback.

88 minutes: Poland narrowly avoids conceding a goal. Schmidd passes to Konrad Laimer, who manages to get past Szczesney and shoot from a difficult angle towards the far corner. The ball slowly goes past the goalpost and misses. It was a tense moment.

85 minutes into the game, Szczesney made an incredible save to block a long-range shot from Stefan Posch that was headed for the top corner of the goal. The Polish goalkeeper showed his skill and agility in that moment.

82 minutes into the game, Austria made a substitution, bringing Romano Schmid and Michael Gregoritsch onto the field in place of Baumgartner and Arnautovic.

Change in Poland's lineup: Kamil Grosicki is coming in to replace Bartosz Slisz.

80 minutes in: Scotland is faced with a tough situation as their hopes of progressing from their group with only two points are diminishing. Poland is in an even more dire position, as their slim chances of advancing to the round of 16 will be completely dashed if they lose this match and France emerges victorious over the Netherlands later on.

Poland 1-3 Austria: Arnautovic Scores Penalty Goal

Austria increases their advantage! Arnautovic deceives Szczesney and puts the ball into the lower right corner of the goal.

Sabitzer was in a clear scoring position when Szczesny, the goalkeeper, took him down by diving at his feet and catching him on the ankle.

73 minutes into the game, Austria almost scored another goal but Szczesney made a great save from Wimmer's shot after Baumgartner set him up nicely.

71 minutes into the game, some much-needed administrative substitutions were made by Poland. Karlos Swiderski entered the game along with Lewandowski, while strikers Buksa and Piatek were taken off the field.

69 minutes into the game, Austria scored a crucial goal through a well-executed play by Baumgartner. Prass made a pass from the left side to Arnautovic, who intentionally let it go past him to Baumgartner. The RB Leipzig player controlled the ball and scored past Szczesny, placing it perfectly in the corner of the goal.

Poland 1-2 Austria: Baumgartner Scores Winner

Austria is back in front! Baumgartner capitalized on a clever Arnautovic move to receive a pass and score past Szczesny from about 12 yards away.

At 65 minutes into the game, there was a booking that I forgot to mention earlier. Jakub Muder was given a yellow card for a foul on Baumgartner.

64 minutes into the game, Austria sends the ball into the Poland penalty area, but Arnautovic struggles to control the ball and take a shot. The chaotic scene resembles a lower-league match, with players scrambling in front of the goal, but Poland eventually clears the ball.

In the 63rd minute, Austria made a substitution, bringing on Alexander Prass in place of Philipp Mwene.

61 minutes into the game, Zewelinski takes a free-kick but unfortunately hits it straight into the defensive wall. As a result, Lewandowski takes over as captain and puts on the armband.

58 minutes into the match, Poland earns a free-kick just outside the Austria penalty box, on the left side. There is a pause in the game as Gernot Trauner receives medical attention for an injury, causing him to be substituted by Kevin Danso.

There is also a unique Polish substitution strategy, featuring Robert Lewandowski and another player whose name will be disclosed once I find out. Let's go!

56 minutes into the game, the referee decides to let the play continue after an Austrian player commits a foul, giving Nicola Zalewski the opportunity to quickly move the ball towards the Austrian goal. Patrick Wimmer rushes back to stop him but ends up committing a foul and receives a yellow card. Poland is awarded a free-kick from a wide position on the left side of the field. Zalewski takes the kick and sends the ball into the Austrian penalty area, but it is successfully cleared by the Austrian defense.

53 minutes into the game, Austria advances with Baumgartner leading the attack. He is fouled by Bartosz Slisz, who receives a yellow card for the foul. Sabitzer takes the free kick, but unfortunately misses the target from a distance of around 35 yards. It seems like he was not aiming to score, but rather made an unexpected mistake with the delivery into the box. In fact, Clive, he might have struck it too perfectly.

51 minutes into the game, Patrick Wimmer earns a corner kick for Austria and delivers the ball into the box. Stefan Posch gets on the end of it with a strong header, but unfortunately, it goes straight into the hands of Szczesny from around 12 yards away.

47 minutes: I am a bit confused by Austria's choice to substitute Florian Grillitsch, but Andros Townsend mentioned on ITV commentary that despite his skills, he did lose possession of the ball frequently in the first half.

For a less insightful opinion from a Townsend family member, you can listen to what Andros's father Troy had to say about England and other topics on the recent episode of the Football Weekly Daily podcast.

Poland And Austria Draw 1-1 At Halftime

About 46 minutes into the game, Poland starts the match which is very important for both teams to win. Both managers decide to make a change - Patrick Wimmer comes on for Austria, and Jakub Moder from Brighton substitutes for Poland. Florian Grillitsch and Jakub Piotrowski are the players being replaced.

A message sent via email from Simon McMahon expressed a change in his level of interest in the game after receiving a pre-match email from Sean McNulty. He now feels fully engaged and invested in the game. Simon hopes that both teams will end the match with a tie, reminiscent of the modern-day Disgrace of Gijón.

At the end of an exciting first 45 minutes, the teams are tied. Austria started strong, taking the lead with a great header from Gernot Trauner. However, Poland fought back and equalized with a calm finish from Kryzsztof Piatek. The game is balanced and set up for an exciting second half.

At 45+1 minutes, Stefan Posch accidentally hits Bartosz Slisz in the face with his arm as he runs past. The Polish midfielder falls down and receives a free kick. Piotr Zielinski takes the kick, curving the ball around the defensive wall. Pentz makes a great save. This marks the end of the first half.

At the 44-minute mark, Florian Grillitsch, who has been standing out in Austria's midfield, attempts to pass the ball through two defenders to set up Sabitzer for a goal-scoring opportunity. Unfortunately, his pass is blocked by the opposition.

42 minutes in: Sabitzer moves towards the center from the left side, receives a pass, and attempts to take a long-range shot towards the left side of the goal. The ball narrowly misses, but I believe that Szczesny would have been able to block it if needed.

After 40 minutes, Arnautovic quickly takes a free kick, sending the ball 30 yards forward along the ground, attempting to pass to Konrad Laimer for a chance. Unfortunately, the pass was too strong and the ball went out of bounds.

After 38 minutes, Austria quickly move the ball towards the opponent's goal with Baumgartner leading the attack. He has teammates on either side of him and decides to pass to Marcel Sabitzer, who then cuts inside. Sabitzer's shot is deflected at a short distance by goalkeeper Szczesny, who had come out to challenge at the edge of the penalty area.

At the 35-minute mark, let's see how Austria responds to that challenge. They are awarded a throw-in in Poland's half, and Mwene cleverly moves a bit forward before throwing the ball to Arnautovic.

32 minutes into the match, Poland managed to score a goal. It all began with a strong cross from Zielinski that caused confusion in the Austrian defense. After a pass and a blocked shot from Bednarek, Piatek found the ball at his feet and managed to score, giving Poland the equalizer.

Piatek Scores For Poland Against Austria

Poland evens the score! Kryzsztof Piatek remains calm and collected as the ball rebounds towards him following a blocked shot from a teammate. He effortlessly takes a touch before slotting it into the back of the Austria net, leaving goalkeeper Patrick Pentz with no chance.

29 minutes: "I can't believe I'm the only Welsh supporter watching Poland and thinking 'that could be us,'" states Jonny Bull. "Even on our current performance, we would struggle against them, especially considering how they are dominating the game."

At the 28th minute, Piotr Zielinski attempts a shot from beyond the Austria penalty area, but it deflects off a defender's head.

26 minutes into the game, Poland is struggling to keep up in the midfield and continuously losing possession of the ball. Robert Lewandowski is seen engaged in a serious discussion with his coach and other members of the coaching staff on the sidelines.
